Hey, sorry for all the dumb newbie questions... however I have one.
When I plug in my high-powered expensive battery pack to USB-C, the laptop DOES take a charge from it. It's one of the ones with a digital read-out, fast charging.. and just a quality battery bank. So I assume it has the fast charging/high watts, etc...
My question is: If I purchase a high quality USB-C charging cable and wall plug, will the Pinebook Pro charge this way as its only charging device? I don't love the barrel charger...
Or, I'd at least like to find a better quality barrel charger.
Does anyone have suggestions on either of these setups? First choice, a good USB-C charging option... and if thats not supported, a better barrel charger for the PBP???
Does USB-C as a charger work good? Great? Better the barrel?
And if you have any suggestions on ones that perform well...

The barrel port is a little faster charging than USB-C. There is no PD or QC so it doesn't help to use the high wattage fast chargers. Typically you can get 2.4 amps max from most USB pwr supplies whereas you get 3 amps with the barrel charger.
I use the barrel port at home and USB-C everywhere else.

Yep, most I have seen on my Baseus charger (it has display) was 2,49 amps.
So if you want to buy USB-C charger - buy one and a cable USB --> regular DC plug (3,5mm x 1,35mm). It should take 3 amps then.

It is quite hard to find smaller wires to measure ID (of plug),,
for sure,,,1.3 will not go in, 1.2 slightly loose

Cool, thanks guys. So it'll only show my ignorance but... I'm surprised that the older barrel style offers more power - I mean I guess... I guess I get it.
I just figured USB-C would have been designed to beat out what I see at an older, 'inferior' device... guess not.
Rock N Roll, I'll use the barrel @ home and can lug around my USB-C battery pack thats also a 65W charger for on the go.

I don't know why USB-C on PBP takes less current than the barrel port, but as discussed in some other threads 15W is a limitation of how the battery charge controller is configured in PBP, possibly for heat management reasons. As to USB-C being designed "to beat out what I see as an older, 'inferior' device" - USB PD standard maxes out at 100W, every laptop manufactured after 2009 that I own (except PBP) can easily reach 120-150W+ power consumption, all use barrel plug on a 170W+ AC adapter. The main driving reason behind the use of USB-C as a power delivery mechanism is not providing more power than barrel plug, but the same as the reason for dropping analog audio port in the latest phones and using USB-C digital headphones instead - miniaturization, drive to reduce the number and size of ports to make the devices thinner, to dedicate more of their volume to battery and surface to screen. If you have any USB-C peripherals - be happy you have a barrel charger port on your PBP in addition to a single Type C port.

I saw on the pine store a usb to barrel connector. Would be easier to carry that instead of the wall wart on top of the other you carry for your phone and it's charger.
usbc on pbp doesnt support PD. thats the issue.
