Fedora + Phosh for PinePhone
#31
U-boot needs to be patched to handle the 3GB variant of the Pinephone. Virtually all systems (except the default Postmarket, plus Manjaro, Arch, Mobian and Jumpdrive) lack the patch and will therefore fail to boot.

Below looks interesting - hope they explore gnome shell as an option rather than just phosh.

Quote:Fedora Mobility hopes to eventually create an official Fedora spin that runs on mobile phones. Right now we're focusing on the PinePhone, but we hope to support even more smartphones including the Librem 5 and OnePlus 5/5T when they gain mainline kernel support.

We do have our own build with Phosh - but you can easily add Gnome (aka Fedora workstation) or KDE-Desktop or XFCE to it,
and choose during boot (Lomiri is on the way too). Gnome actually has more features working (like auto screen rotation).
We are working on a fresh image - should be ready in a few days.

What is this u-boot patch you speak of?    I've a 3GB pmOS CE pinephone which also will not boot the fedora image.

Tried the new release - it feels pretty quick on my BH. Noticed sound doesn't work except in calls.

I've downloaded the .tar.xz image but should I do something else with it before performing the flash? BalenaEtcher tells me the image is missing the partition table.

You need to extract the image from that file first - follow the instructions here.

Got it: the .tar.xz file should end up as a .img one and not as .tar; I missed that part from the instructions. Thanks.

Also going to bring attention to the notice:

The current build has a broken symlink to a temporary resolv.conf file. This causes some apps to not connect to a network.
Code:
sudo rm /etc/resolv.conf
and reboot to have the correct file generated.

I've tested for a longer time. Most of the time the resume process / wake up of the cellular connection took too much time, more than 30s. Sometimes the call is rejected after 2 dial tones without ringtone. Calls from my "Fritzphone" have to be refused several times.

Similar behaviour like in Arch Linux.

Perhaps this new project of Ondrej will help: https://xnux.eu/log/#028

In my opinion - open-source code for the modem will be an huge advantage
and will hopefully help to solve the suspend/resume problems.
