Trackpad woes
#11
Hey all,

Just got my PBP today and loving it. Mine is part of the batch that was post resolution of some QA issues.
Still experiencing some jittery touchpad issues. Was wondering if this batch needs the firmware update? Or is that an old update only for the Debian install, and not the new Manjaro install?

EDIT: to clarify, the behavior can best be described as, when the touchpad works, it works great. but when you switch from typing to using the touchpad, there is an initial lag from when you first put your finger on the touchpad to when the pointer on the screen moves. Then it seems to overcompensate, and the pointer jumps all the way to the edge of the screen.

Many thanks,
B

I have the same experience. There is an initial lag in recognizing the touch, then a "jump". I also experience this jump sometimes while in the middle of a touch gesture. The pointer suddenly crosses the entire screen to lodge on the opposite border.

I received mine yesterday and unfortunately I noticed these same issues straight away. The "jump" halfway across the screen randomly and not being able to make minor mouse movements is a bit frustrating. Everything else so far has been quite nice.

I just posted with similar issues as I hadn't seen the last few messages in this thread.  I'm having the same issue (received mine yesterday).  Are you also seeing "failed to apply/disable psr" messages repeating in dmesg?  Have you tried any alternate OSs yet?

Indeed, I do have the same messages in dmesg. Do you have reason to suspect they're related to the trackpad jumpiness?

Just had a feeling that if something was coming up that often in dmesg for everyone that it would have showed up somewhere else in the forum, as a false positive if nothing else, but I haven't found any reference to it (besides the one you just posted).

PSR  stands for "panel self refresh"--it seems the system is complaining about a graphics issue in the analogix bridge driver--probably has nothing to do with trackpad issues. ..    Have you tried playing around with the trackpad settings?

Yes, turning acceleration completely off somewhat mitigates the issue since it thinks you're moving the pointer very quickly, but then acceleration is off and it's a pain to use (and still isn't that much better).  I like the trackpad settings at the defaults, since there are certain situations where the issue does not occur at all (see my other post with more details - https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=10339).

Re: the display error, it's also interesting to note that I'm having graphical issues when trying different OSs.

hey guys,

glad to hear i'm not the only one. loving everything else about the PBP so far though.
also having the same error with dmesg.
no time to try other OSes right now as life is a little hectic, but will certainly do so when the opportunity arises. hopefully before then, someone will have some more insight as to any possible fixes.

Thanks again all,
B

Greetings,

I am really enjoying the PBP. I received mine a few days ago, so it is the most recent hardware version. Currently running  the  preinstalled Manjaro Arm distribution and applied all current updates.

I am experiencing the "jump" described above.

The script provided by Manjaro allowed me to update the firmware for the keyboard/trackpad. No errors where encountered during that process and it was straightforward. Not entirely sure this fw update was needed. The forums were not clear if this is solely a 2019 version issue  or not.  I  was hoping it would correct the "jump" described in this post.

Any fixes or suggestions? I have not messed with the trackpad settings, but will test and report back.

Unrelated to issue, but brought up in post:
dmesg output:
[ 5150.294438] rockchip-dp ff970000.edp: Failed to apply PSR -110
[ 5150.294480] [drm:analogix_dp_bridge_atomic_enable [analogix_dp]] *ERROR* Failed to disable psr -110
