Debian Desktop off SD?
#1
Has anyone had any success or failure running this build off an SD card?

https://wiki.pine64.org/index.php/Pinebo...an_Desktop

I get a login, then the screen goes black, and stays that way.  Any ideas?

I attempted to boot mrfixit's Debian desktop from SD last night 3 times and was unsuccessful. It hung every time in early boot process. It made it to boot splash but did not make it to login. Am on trip, so unable to hook up serial cable and observe what is happening. Will take a look tomorrow.

I did successfully boot ayufan's bionic lxde image off SD the first time, using the exact same process and same hardware:
  • Used PBP for this process, factory installed Debian desktop
  • Downloaded image to USB 3.0 hard drive
  • Inserted SD card
  • Verified image md5sum signature
  • Burned image to SD using dd with bs=4M conv=fsync
  • Rebooted PBP

You installed a different OS.  So perhaps it is a software/firmware problem with the stock build.

Is there any other Debian than stock Debian image for PBP?

I'm trying to boot the same one, except off SD.

I just tried the Bionic-LXDE image on the same card, and it worked.

It is very strange. Which command have you used to create bootable SD for Debian?

I just used the Pine64 installer to flash the SD.

According to someone on Discord, he needed to "edit the extlinux.conf to correct the partition UUID's" to get it to work.

Maybe you should just try dd method like when installing Ubuntu. I used this way and booted Debian without problem.

I've also tried the pinebookpro-debian-desktop-mrfixit-190905.img multiple times on 3 different microsd cards with the same results as you... I see the boot splash, briefly see the console login, and then I get a blank screen.

I've used both Etcher and dd with the same results.
