This image doesn't seem to have an eMMC flasher, though every time I tried running the first time installation after booting on SD, I ended up with a non-bootable SD.  I also tried method 3, but the KDE Neon image is too large to fit.

I also tried dd'ing the image to the eMMC, but ended up with a non-booting machine.  I backed up / restored the original eMMC contents successfully so I know it should work.  Is the image on kce.org specifically for SD or should it in fact work if copied to the eMMC?

I just ordered a cheap USB to eMMC adapter and will try installing the image on the eMMS with that next.

But since many sources point online here, I feel compelled to quickly write up the missing kind-of detailed instructions:

In short, you can flash the eMMC on the Pinebook either via: 1) FEL (outline in link above); 2) booting from SD and flashing to eMMC (some OS images have their own installers while on other OS' you have dd the eMMC manually); 3) using a special SD card image (such as this one).

As for 3), its worth mentioning that it can be easily modified to flash any OS image to eMMC by i) flashing the image above to a SD card ii) mounting the rootfs partition of the SD card on your computer (I am assuming you're on *nix) iii) deleting 'pinebook.img' from the partition iv) copying over whatever OS image you want on your Pinebook's eMMC v) renaming the OS image you copied over 'pinebook.img' vi) and lastly putting it into your Pinebook, powering it on and following onscreen instructions (NB disregard that it says 'flashing Ubuntu Mate' -> its actually flashing whatever OS image you placed in the SD rootfs).

I trust this helps.

I got it installed after all.  My method was to install KDE Plasme on both an SD card and a USB thumb drive, then boot on the SD and dd the thumb drive (/dev/sda) to the eMMC.  It's running great and a huge improvement over the stock Xenial.  I noticed that there is no swap enabled, but there is 20MB of unallocated space at the beginning of flash.  I set that up as a swap partition, but the machine wouldn't reboot after that.  Any thoughts on swap space for this release?

The initial space is for things like the bootloader, I would not recommend changing that 'hidden' partition. Instead I recommend installing zram-config.

Thanks for the pointer.  I'd set up a swap file, but zram looks like a much better solution.

Hello everyone,

I am happy to announce newer version of the image,

https://files.kde.org/neon/images/pinebo...0917-1726/

There are several fixes included,
  • Resuming from sleep is fixed
  • Broken audio after resuming from sleep
  • Bluetooth
  • Palm rejection (Disable "touchpad" while typing)
  • Disable/enable speakers when plugging/unplugging headphones
  • Disable accidental zoom invocation when scrolling in firefox
Errata:
  • Lack of real suspend, I believe this is due to choice of driver we are using, and currently turning lid off puts device to sleep and not suspend like mate image.
  • Sleep inverts the brightness control, after waking up from sleep brightness control are inverted.
If you have any other issues with this build, let me know in comments.

That's great, thanks! Will a sudo apt upgrade install these updates so I don't have to re-configure my machine from scratch?

Sounds great! Can't wait to try it :-) Am also interested if an upgrade can be done from previous version? Not sure because those palm rejection and ? headphone fixes are the known scripts?

Thanks for another awesome release! I reflashed, but would be interested to know if an upgrade is sufficient.

palm rejection and Firefox zoom inhibit are especially useful. Trackpad acts like it's powered by Red Bull! Is suspend supposed to keep the power LED on solid?

If you need anything tested, just let us know!

Suspend is still Sleep-mode for now. Anyone with an idea how to put it into real suspend-mode would be absolute fantastic.

The link to the latest img in wiki needs an update to not point to a specific version:
