HDMI-VGA adapter. Blank screen.

My Pine64 arrived in the post today, and I tried to connect it to my monitor via a HDMI-VGA adapter. But the screen shows nothing. I have no HDMI capable TV, so that's not an option.

On my raspberry pis there's a configuration file in the FAT boot partition where you can specify HDMI "safe mode" to ensure these devices work. is there anything similar in any of the operating systems built for the pine? I've tried Android and Linux and nothing. PhoenixCard won't work to try Remix, but that's for another topic.

This is the sort of stuff the raspberry pi OS can deal with:

VGA resolutions, video modes, HDMI groups...what is the equivalent for the pine? Is it documented anywhere? A HDMI-VGA adaptor was offered as an add on, so I assume it's supported somehow?

For Android OS, the current support video format is 720p and 1080p. If your VGA-HDMI converter is pass thru mode type, please make sure your VGA monitor can support 270p or 1080p. If your VGA-HDMi converter can convert the resolution, please send the inout either at 720p or 1080p, and adjust to your VGA monitor resolution.

Ok, good to know what I'm dealing with. I think it's just a pass thru, like the one that was being sold on the store here. It doesn't have any switch for converting. The monitor can handle 1400X900 by default. I assume Android can't do that then. But can the arch linux distro be set to a specific resolution?

The current Android build does not handle 1400x900 resolution. I don't think the current Arch Linux build support 1400x900. However, you can check at Sunxi for changing resolution document.

Is there any plans to add other resolution for supporting? I have the similar problem, but I tried old 15 inches acer monitor with 1024x768

Same here, I also have to use an VGA to HDMI adapter, since I only have that monitor, and the pine 2GB only displays the red light on the board, but the monitor doesn't appear to be receiving any sort of signal.

What good is a $29 single board computer, when you have to buy a new monitor to use it? I wish the developers could provide an easy step by step way to install all the available images, providing basic troubleshot scenarios, and what's so hard about programming the images to display by default a standard resolution that can be handled by even older monitors?

So far I haven't been able to even see if my Pine64 works. Didn't have that problem when starting out with my Raspberry Pi 2 nor with my Latte Panda. This really sucks.

hi gang!

... I recommend purchasing a modern flat panel LED monitor from either Samsung or LG;  make sure that it supports both 720p60 and 1080p60.

One of my favorite monitors is the LG 1920x1080 LED 24mp57HQ ; hdmi works great with the pine boards and is sharp and clear.

Hi MarkHaysHarris777,

Thanks for the monitor suggestion, I better start saving, but if I had some extra cash right now, I would have bought a more expensive computer for starters, sort of defeats the purpose of why I purchased it.
Does the LCD display struggle with this issue as well? I ask because I don't have money right now for a new monitor, but I could afford the display with the playbox enclosure. Howecer, it's a shame I can already tell by the photo, that the enclosure is low quality Chinese made and doesn't fit correctly, otherwise there wouldn't be that open space, especially when one is looking for an enclosure. I hope technology like this gets built in America instead of feeding the Chinese.[Image: ?product=pine64-playbox-enclosure] It's image 2/2.

Sorry to bother you again MarkHaysHarris777,

So like many Pine64 noobs out there, I can't seem to make my Pine64 work, probably the only gadget I've ever bought that I can't even get successfully troubleshoot, so anyway, is there a particular Linux OS image, preferably Ubuntu, that can run with a VGA to HDMI adapter? I mean obviously if Pine sells such VGA to HDMI adapter, it should be able to work, right? But since I happen to have a regular VGA to HDMI adapter, which works perfectly with any other single board computer I've purchased so far, if I were to buy the oficial Pine64 VGA to HDMI adapter, would I be able to have an output signal on my VGA monitor? Perhaps due to a better chipset or component?

Please let me know, to decide if I should get it or not, thanks Master Pine!

hi, I also have a relatively modern Samsung monitor with vga and DVI input;  the analog input is 1280x720 p60--  this monitor works well with the Pine Store hdmi-->vga  adapter ( single piece self contained ).

More likedly than not,  your pine board is booting but your monitor is not compatible.  If you have a serial TTL usb bridge cable you can plug the cable into the EXP header and then plug the usb end into your mac or pc...  you can then monitor the boot sequence to see where its hanging up.

Also, we can help you better on-line   see the irc  chat  address below.

You may also logon to the computer via the serial console cable.  Also, you may logon to the computer via ssh.

( see you on the irc chat )
