Guessing it has something to do with u-boot-update? Can check when I've fixed my PBP...
On that subject, up until now I installed Kali with:
sudo dd if=kali-linux-2022.1-pinebook-pro-xfce-arm64.img of=/dev/mmcblk1 status=progress conv=fsync
For some reason the PBP won't boot (it has a working NVME drive)
Has anyone gotten the image to work well? I find that mine boots it does a goofy display glitch looking thing (like used to happen to VGP vidcards without proper drivers), but only for a moment, then it seems to boot okay. But it seems to reboot at random and it doesn't always come up at all.
------
it doesn't get happy
it doesn't get sad
it just runs programs
I’ve been running Kali with one of the new Pinebooks and it has been usable so far.
Had to fix the wifi & I get the same glitch screen on boot up (I think when it’s looking for the video card), but other than that it has been doing good.
Using it daily at work: some of the security software, Firefox, Thunderbird and to make reports (writer & calc) with Libreoffice. I have it running from the eMMC and the sd card as storage with U-Boot & kernel: 5.18.0-kali5-arm64.
I haven’t had the restart problem, but I did have to get a decent sdcard for it to be reliably recognized.

Interest in Kali on pbp seems to have dropped to zero?
Still using mine daily at work & everything is fine; nothing really to post about.
Compiled a new kernel for it and added some blue-tooth earbuds, about it.

Just an update, for those wondering about progress; Kali is still working fine on the PBP (04/10/2023),
stock Kernel 6.0.0-kali5-arm6, custom kernels are also working well; Daily driver ready, been using it since last year, without any real problems, with daily updates (that haven’t broken anything yet) .

Tempted to go towboot & reinstall but same here
