I am not sure but I think that there's a builtin antenna on the circuitboard (or within the wifi chip) but with that antenna properly connected (through the very small uFL connector) it should improve your wifi reception.

There is no builtin antenna on the circuit board, we prefer to use external antenna which can easily fix to good location that yield better wifi performance.
