Alright. I had a chance to try something.
ypcat passwd gives the exact same results on a Debian client as a NetBSD client.
id test gives the same results as well:
uid=1004(test) gid=100(users) groups=100(users)
But I cannot log in as 'test'. The password authentication fails.
By the way, the configuration on the Debian machine seems to be okay.
