If you're used to and prefer Debian you can install it on your PBP, see http://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=8487. You can also install the latest kernel from Sid/Unstable and it will work fine, though (at least for now) it doesn't seem to support deep sleep, unlike xmixahx's 5.8.x kernel. Otherwise your issues seem to be distro-specific.
