It'll improve power consumption, responsiveness recovering from device sleep and adds VoIP profiles for certain providers. The modem already runs Linux both pre and post firmware upgrade.

The answer might be somewhere but I didn't find it? Anyone else knows?
The efforts of replacing the firmware's userland by @biktorgj and @megous (incredible work BTW!) may offer us more options in the future. At this moment, the results are awesome, but not usable by everyone.
