Updating my Braveheart board did increase the list of supported LTE networks, so something changed. I updated to the Mobian 5.8 kernel to do the upgrade. So I don't know if the Mobian update or modem update reduced the running temperature. Before the board and modem were getting very hot, the temperature is much less now.
