The "sticker on a cord" is actually an extra wifi antenna, which can be mounted on or outside you case.
I am not sure but I think that there's a builtin antenna on the circuitboard (or within the wifi chip) but with that antenna properly connected (through the very small uFL connector) it should improve your wifi reception.
