True enough. But by this point, understanding the tradeoffs required to use Google's ubiquitous services in terms of privacy and data ownership have been made abundantly clear, by even the New York Times. Apple is only a little less onerous.
I'm building /e/ ROMs for unsupported LTE phones, and helping others shrink the data they expose. It's a good effort, headed by Gael Duvel, who's original Mandrake Linux did a huge effort in advancing KDE popularity in those early days. :-)
