How in the world could you boot a dd'd image (onto SD card) unless you had tow-boot on emmc
So no uboot involved, but only EFI.
tow-boot seems to have no trouble booting from ISO images using EFI
As correctly assumed by 'Der Geist der Maschine', on my PBP tow-boot is exclusively installed to SPI and no other uboot present.
Since i didn't care for suspend to ram, i preferred tow-boot over Mr. Fixit's original but by now probably outdated uboot.
Over at the pine64 discord in the pinebook sub section i was told that any recent uboot is able to boot from EFI.
