I really suspect it is a hardware issue though, as you say you've reverted the firmware and still the issue persists. I am also running 1.10 and no issues for me. I really suspect it's not the display connector, but I don't suppose you have much to lose by opening it given the current unusable state.
I sealed an unsealed watch with a light dab of super glue around the edge. I don't think it's water tight, but over several years it has not once failed me. As I said, it's worth a shot given your current situation.

I understand what you're saying, but it may not be possible. I hate e-waste too, and there is something to be said about keeping a piece of hardware going as long as possible, but it may just be cooked at this point.
