Pinebook Pro & PinePhone shipping progress (2020)

There's something fishy here guys..... I cant quite put my finger on exactly what it is. I have ordered and received three orders of Nike shoes ex China between april and june, 3 week delivery cycle. I read the daily shipping updates but a lot of what is posted there does not make sense. Like why is there border guards and why the inspecting of parcels going from china to china?

Because Hong Kong is not China...

Want to say a big 'Thank-you!' to Pine64 team. Ordered both Manjaro Pinebook Pro and Ubuntu CE Pinephone back in April. So, the Pinebook Pro arrived after about seven weeks - excellent piece of kit!! Pinephone didn't appear, for all the very valid reasons mentioned. As I had to be away with work I decided to cancel my phone order ( during the hight of CV19 when we were given and option. ) I just followed the process and received a refund  - about ten days later. I was very happy with the service. Even better, my work changed again just when some Ubuntu CE Pinephones became available again - so I reordered.
Pine64 - thank you.
Fellow phone waitees - this is a small, socially responsible company, selling us a good product at a remarkable price. Let's cut them some slack and be patient. Peace.

I should cross fingers more often... Phone arrived today.

For those waiting, Track17 (or tracking from DHL or USPS website) is kind of useless (in my own experience). No updates in their website until today when the phone arrived.

Phone booted without problems.
I got 2 sim adaptors (maybe one free item for the waiting? haha)
Now I have problems to connect to WI-FI, but this doesn't belong here.

Almost there (in UK with DHL delivery of PinePhone).

This morning I received a Telephone Call from the DHL local delivery office, advising me that I need to pay Customs and VAT tax charges. I was a bit surprised because I assumed this would all be done online - as indeed it was in fact. I got the automated DHL online emails an hour later! I think the Delivery Office staff were keen to make sure that they (and I) lose no more time - not complaining   

Anyway the tax charges have been paid by myself and I expect the phone within the next 2 days

However, I shall look forward to the new shipping arrangements via Poland for the PinePhone PostmarketOS Community Edition - hopefully this will make shipping even simpler.

Just got mine in the mail today. Slight dark spot in the bottom left part of the screen but otherwise in great shape. Very excited to get to messing with this thing!

Is there a post office in Hong Kong? Why the need to ship from China? Also how come border guards are inspecting the shipment? We recently purchased and received an iPhone made in China how come these devices are not inspected? Whats going on?

PinePhone considers as an export (tax-free) item, the China custom border needs to inspect to make sure correct item has been exported. If factory not follow this procedure, their export license can be revoke and local tax will be imposed.

Hong Kong considers as a tax-free port but China is NOT.

OF NOTE :

In recent forum posts I have seen reports of the modem being corrupted when the battery is removed while the phone is powered on.

While I always do turn off my phone before I remove the rear cover,  I have accidentally turned the phone on while removing the cover.

Perhaps this warning should be included with the enclosed instructions ?

I got my Ubports in a little over 3 weeks. Pretty fast considering the mess in China/Hong Kong. I updated to DHL and got a tracking #. Then before the phone arrived the extra $10 shipping upgrade was refunded! i've since ordered a bunch of accesories and now a Postmarket Convergance edition.
I have a Librem 5 on order since 1-11-2018 and that is hopefully shipping late Aug so I'll get 2 Google-free phones at the same time! That will make me very happy indeed.

Purchased my PINEPHONE - “Community Edition: UBports" Limited Edition Linux SmartPhone on 5/16/20 phone arrived 7/22/20 Tracking number was worthless and never worked.

Assume the warranty starts the day it arrived since it took a unreasonable amount of time to get here? (Months)
