Charging via USB-C Port
#1
On the Spec page of the Pinebook Pro it says "USB-C (Data, Power and Video out)", leading me to think that it might mean it supports data out, power out, and video out, but what about Power in?

I'm curious if I'll be able to charge it via the usb-c port instead of the barrel port.

Thanks for any help!

Edit: Never mind, on the store page it listed more information on the port "USB 3.0 Type-C ports with alt-mode display out and 15W 5V 3A charge". So it does appear capable of charging through the USB-C port.

Yes. I have tested a handful of different chargers from different companies (xiaomi, huawei, apple, samsung) and they all worked just fine.

I was going to ask if the MacBook Pro charger (61W) would work.

But then I researched and Apple says: 'The Apple 61W USB-C Power Adapter first declares it supports 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps)'
For reference, stock Pinebook Pro barrel pin uses 5volts at 0.5amp.

So the MacBook charger should work safely - and may allow faster charging as more amps - I'm testing it now.

Stock barrel pin charger is AGONISINGLY slow to charge the device - especially when watching HD video - it went from 30% to 28% for me after an hour of watching video, meaning it wasn't getting enough amps to charge properly.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, just thought my findings may help someone.

This all has been discussed over and over. My measurements where with a kill-a-watt and there may be a slight error: Macbook Pro charger charges with 13W while barrel charger with 15.9W.

I'm not sure from where you have the info about 0.5A.

Under load, the Pinebook Pro requires more power than external power supplies can deliver and it falls back to battery.

My mistake - it says input 0.5A, output 3A. Which would mean your measurements make sense

Thanks for the info and 'under load' explanation. I'm sure it is correct.

There is a lot of random information about this topic online (this forum and blogs) so nice to find some clarity.

@Eggmonkey, Give a read to the Pinebook Pro Wiki;
https://wiki.pine64.org/index.php/Pinebook_Pro
We are trying to make it the reference material to the PBP.

Which includes;
https://wiki.pine64.org/index.php/Pinebo...wer_Supply

I've made lots of changes to improve clarity of the information, (as well as add information). But, like any documentatin, it's a work in progress.

As usual, feel free to correct, improve or comment, (good or politely bad).
