Can't use HDMI to DVI converter purchased from Pine64 store
#1
I purchased an HDMI to DVI converter.
Tried it with Android and Ubuntu, neither work with my DELL 2407FP
24-Inch WUXGA 1920 x 1200 Display

Boots fine though (can ssh to Ubuntu)
Using an HDMI cable direct to a regular 1080p flatscreen TV/Monitor does work.
Both Android and Ubuntu work with HDMI (not with the converter)

Wondering why you sell the HDMI to DVI converter in the Pine64 store.

How can we get a build for Android or Linux that works with DVI?
Can I help with any builds to test with HDMI?

If the adapter does not work with a particular monitor/TV, the problem is most likely an incompatibility between the Pine64's HDMI and that monitor/TV.
The Pine64 has notable HDMI compatibility problems with many users (personally the Pine64 is not compatible with any of my monitors/TVs).

I've had 100% success using a Samsung monitor (S20C300BL) and a standard HDMI to DVI adapter cable from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TH...UTF8&psc=1). The DVI input on the monitor is DVI-D (dual link).

One would think the adapter and cable design would be the same, only difference being gender on the cables/adapter, but reading all of the problems, such as the one above, leads me to wonder if the problems are more centered on the design/compatibility of the adapter, rather than the monitor itself.

I think its also important to break out what is likely two distinct issues: one, issues with hdmi input monitors, and issues with DVI inputs, with the adapter being used.

Turns out it is because the Pine64 linux driver for the allwinner chipset doesn't support anything other than 1080p resolution.
It only works with a 1920 x 1080 monitor (or lcd TV)

The monitor I'm using and reference is max 1600x900...I'm running 1280x720, based on what the menu settings are telling me.

I honestly haven't paid much attention to video settings due to being fortunate enough to not having had the issues that many are experiencing.

@jeffsteinmetz it is not true that the Linux driver doesn't support anything but 1080p.

You are misinformated. Both Ubuntu and Debian distributions provided by myself and longsleep support a variety of resolutions.

The Debian images ship by default at 1280x720p and can be modified with ease to do 1080p and a variety of other resolutions up to 1080 at this point.

Also in regards to the HDMI converter ordeal if you are using a passive adapter you will get a pinkish color instead of black while if you use an active converter the issue doesn't exist.
