Partitioning encrypted CCC Carbon Copy Cloner AND setting up Time Machine on HDD
Posted by: vidin - 05-10-2020, 01:08 PM - Forum: Linux on Rock64 - No Replies

I'm new to owning a SBC (Rock64) and new to OMV.
Installed ayufan's stretch-openmediavault-rock64-0.9.14-1159-armhf and am able to get around on it ok.

I have a previously partitioned USB 3TB External HD. It has a ~500GB encrypted CCC partition, a ~500GB partition for Time Machine, and the remaining 2GB I would like to keep as storage for Photos and Music, etc.

The filesystems are HFS plus. The encrypted partition can't be seen by OMV file systems.

I ran these:
apt-get install hfsplus hfsutils hfsprogs
mkdir /media/hfs
mount -t hfsplus /dev/sdXY /media/hfs

I am able to create Shared SMB folders and access my photos. Spent a few hours on the TM partition with no luck though. Problems when adding a shared folder:

Failed to set file group to 'users' for '/srv/dev-disk-by-label-TMRock64/'
Error #0:
OMV\Exception: Failed to set file group to 'users' for '/srv/dev-disk-by-label-TMRock64/': in /usr/share/openmediavault/engined/rpc/sharemgmt.inc:341
Stack trace:
#0 [internal function]: OMVRpcServiceShareMgmt->set(Array, Array)
#1 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/rpc/serviceabstract.inc(123): call_user_func_array(Array, Array)
#2 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/rpc/rpc.inc(86): OMV\Rpc\ServiceAbstract->callMethod('set', Array, Array)
#3 /usr/sbin/omv-engined(537): OMV\Rpc\Rpc::call('ShareMgmt', 'set', Array, Array, 1)
#4 {main}

Although it will let me apply that, as if there was no error...

I can add the newly shared folder to Apple Filing and set user permission, but then I get this error when I try to setup the new TM on my mac
The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error 2.)

OR I will get this

You do not have the necessary read, write and append privileges on the selected network backup disk.

Is the problem the HFSplus? I tried deleting the partition to format it on OMV but then it disappeared on OMV, I could only recreate it on the mac. I've also tried reinstalling OMV.

I can reconfigure the disk with different partitions if needed, I just would like to know what those should be before going through the process.

Any Ideas? Thanks

This person says avoid HFS+
permissions problem with share on HFS+ drive

Question New Design NVMe Adaptor?
Posted by: User 11436 - 05-10-2020, 10:22 AM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (6)

In October, another post hinted at the arrival of a redesigned NVMe adaptor?
https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=8117

Does anyone have any idea when this might arrive? I still have the old adaptor that can't be used without obstructing the trackpad's click functionality.

  PineTime Hypnos
Posted by: endian-albin - 05-10-2020, 02:28 AM - Forum: Development Discussion on PineTime - No Replies

This is an addition  to the myriad of PineTime efforts: a Zephyr-based firmware focused on low power consumption and 100 % Free Software adherence.

It does not have as many features as some of the other projects but we hope to get there one day. Here is were we stand at the time of writing:

  • 100 % Free Software
  • Low power consumption: 1.38 mA in idle mode (1.28 mA with the heart rate sensor disconnected), which gives a battery life of more than five days.
  • Battery status: get state of charge and whether it's charging
  • Clock: accurately increment current time
  • Button: press to start time synchronization with Bluetooth-connected device
  • Touch sensor: tap to light up the display
  • Graphics: show background image, time, date, battery and Bluetooth status using LittlevGL
  • Optional debug output via JLink RTT

  Battery issues with latest image
Posted by: ashley123 - 05-10-2020, 01:22 AM - Forum: UBPorts on PinePhone - Replies (6)

Hi, I installed the latest image on my braveheart pine phone and it looks much more polished but I am still seeing the battery last 6 to 7 hours. I don't know if it connected to the battery issue but I can feel the back of the phone just below the camera (still not working right) lens as being warm.

Does anyine have any idea what the reason for this might be?

Thanks

Bug USB Type-C connector overmold conflicts with the back cover
Posted by: ngkz - 05-09-2020, 06:26 PM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (1)

I found that the plug overmold conflicts with the back cover when using the cable with a short plug (6.6mm). It charges the phone, but the retention mechanism is loose and the cable falls out when it swings.

According to Universal Serial Bus Type-C Cable and Connector Specification Release 2.0 page 46, the minimum length of the type-c plug is 6.51mm, so PinePhone should accept this cable.

FYI the Type-C specification recommends >=0.05mm clearance between the exterior surface of the product and plug overmold.

Pulse Secure Client on Pinebook Pro
Posted by: wwtaylor - 05-09-2020, 03:18 PM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - No Replies

Hello,

So I am debating getting a pinebook pro since my laptop just died and I wanted something a little bit more fun, tinkery, inexpensive, etc. Than what I would get out of a normal laptop.

I just have one fear though, my school uses pulse secure as their vpn, and I would need to use this laptop a lot for schoolwork, and I need the vpn for various things (remoting in to shared computing resources, accessing my home drive, reading papers from IEEE xplore, ACM, SAE, etc.) but from what I have gathered, the pulse secure vpn client ONLY runs on x86 and AMD64.

I went over and asked about x86 emulation on ARM similar to WOW64 over on the level 1 forums, but they just recommended I use QEMU+chroot and said that you'd probably be more help over here.

So here's my issue, is there a way to emulate x86 to run the pulse secure vpn client on the Pinebook Pro? My issue with chroot is that the whole system wouldn't inherit the connection.

Thanks!

  Anbox for Debian
Posted by: nas - 05-09-2020, 07:46 AM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (43)

Following on from this post, here's a recap and some extra info.

Install the anbox modules:  [ Edit: No longer required from kernel 5.7 so read this post ]

Code:
sudo apt install dkms
git clone https://github.com/anbox/anbox-modules
cd anbox-modules
sudo cp anbox.conf /etc/modules-load.d/
sudo cp 99-anbox.rules /lib/udev/rules.d/
sudo cp -rT ashmem /usr/src/anbox-ashmem-1
sudo cp -rT binder /usr/src/anbox-binder-1
sudo dkms install anbox-ashmem/1
sudo dkms install anbox-binder/1

Download anbox-image-working.tar.gz from here - extract android.img and ignore the other files.

Code:
sudo apt install anbox android-tools-adb
sudo cp android.img /var/lib/anbox/

Get the services and frontend started:

Code:
sudo systemctl start anbox-container-manager.service
systemctl --user start anbox-session-manager.service
anbox launch --package=org.anbox.appmgr --component=org.anbox.appmgr.AppViewActivity

Download an app and install it, eg bbc news app

Code:
adb install InsertAppName.apk

App loads but no internet? The below should help once the kernel supports ip routing:

Code:
sudo /usr/share/anbox/anbox-shell.sh
su
ip route add default dev eth0 via 192.168.250.1
ip rule add pref 32766 table main
ip rule add pref 32767 table local

You may want to modify the android image, e.g. to support the microg app suite as discussed here. Someone has already provided a patched services.jar - download it from here. Following instructions are taken from here.

Uncompress filesystem:

Code:
sudo apt install squashfs-tools
mkdir ~/anbox-work
cd ~/anbox-work
cp /var/lib/anbox//android.img .
sudo unsquashfs android.img

Copy over patched file:

Code:
sudo cp ./services.jar ~/anbox-work/squashfs-root/system/framework/
cd ~/anbox-work/squashfs-root/system/framework/
sudo chown -R 100000:100000 services.jar

Recompress to image:

Code:
cd ~/anbox-work
rm android.img
sudo mksquashfs squashfs-root android.img -b 131072 -comp xz
sudo cp android.img /var/lib/anbox/

I haven't found any use for it but the microg self-test says it works.

.jpg   anbox-microg.jpg (Size: 48.79 KB / Downloads: 1228)

Okay, that should be about it - except sound might not work. See this discussion but the media xml files are present in this image so maybe it's a permission issue. Anyway, have a play with it and see whether it works for you.

  Libertine?
Posted by: Zweitaktmotor - 05-09-2020, 05:51 AM - Forum: UBPorts on PinePhone - Replies (12)

I would really like to see familiar apps in UT, such as Firefox, LibreOffice and - most importantly - a working e-mail client. Dekko2 does not seem to work (cannot enter data in account setup), so something like Thunderbird or Sylpheed will be good to have.

Is this what "Libertine" is for? It tells that it needs some setting up, but I have not been able to do so.

  Mobile data issue on UT
Posted by: afigegoznaet - 05-08-2020, 08:10 AM - Forum: UBPorts on PinePhone - Replies (6)

Hi.

Looks like mobile data is not working in latest images (it used to work before).
I tried to enable it using this command:
nmcli d connect quectelqmi_0
and
nmcli c up  <uuid>
But no luck.
Also noticed APN is not selectable in the settings.
Anyone else having same issues, was able to fix it?

Hi there; i plan to buy a PinePhone on the next weeks and i got some questions:

the first is: does the PinePhone already launched ? and ready to grab ?

i had to choose between PinePhone and Fairphone; but i prefer PinePhone due to personal preferences and special options on it;
can somebody tell me more about materials used for build the Pinephone ?
