USB-C Dock with HDMI no output

Using a USB-C dock with a new pinebook. The other ports on the hub function. However there is no HDMI output.
When examining the "display configuration" GUI window (KDE) there is a second window called "DP-1" when the dock is plugged in, irregardless of whether a HDMI is plugged in or not.
When inserting the USB-C cable the other way around, the Display Configuration does not show any extra monitors irregardless of HDMI. It does not display the "DP-1" window in this case either.
HDMI on the USB-C dock works when connected to other devices

I was interested in monitoring CPU usage, so I enabled the KDE CPU monitor widget. It seemed OK, but then lag started occuring. Then I opened it and turned on monitor all CPUs.
In short, never do this Apparently, the default interval is set to 0 seconds, which can't be changed from desktop, and if it monitors all six CPUs, it overwhelms the buffer with monitor requests, which the processor is too slow to respond to. Your user desktop will crash, and from GUI, you will be able to do nothing at all.
Later, I'll follow up how to resolve this of you get stuck - from the GUI, you can log into root and edit a file in the .config, to remove all those extra CPUs. I don't have a good Internet connection right now, so I'll post when I do.
Until then, treat those widgets gently. It seems at least one of them can't be tolerated by the hardware.

Hi All,
Apoligies if this isn't in the right place etc
I was wondering if it would be possible for someone out there who owns one (or a differnt Pine product!) to compile this program from github and time it before I go ahead and purchase one. I have done this on all the computers that I have to have a general sense of how fast the CPU is etc - i know its not very accurate but it's interesting to be able to compare them IMO.
The program is called Minetest which can be found here: https://github.com/minetest/minetest#compiling ( I hope links are ok?)
For debian the commands are:
1)
Code: sudo apt install g++ make libc6-dev libirrlicht-dev cmake libbz2-dev libpng-dev libjpeg-dev libxxf86vm-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libsqlite3-dev libogg-dev libvorbis-dev libopenal-dev libcurl4-gnutls-dev libfreetype6-dev zlib1g-dev libgmp-dev libjsoncpp-dev
2)
Code: sudo apt install git
3)
Code: git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/minetest/minetest.git
cd minetest
4)
Code: cmake . -DRUN_IN_PLACE=TRUE
And then, finally,
Code: time make -j$(nproc)
If you could post your results for the time taken to build this I would be massivley thankful as it gives me something to compare it to in terms of devices that I have so that I can gauge the performance, rather than some generic numbers online No need to run it or anything I would just like to know how long it takes to compile and if I can replace my ageing laptop with this system
Thanks again,
G

Hi,
I'm pretty new to Linux, but I loath Manjaro.
How can I *easily* install Ubuntu as every route seems to lead me to a build script that complains about aarch64 comparability.
I just want to book from a USB image and wipe the eSSD with Ubuntu Arch64
Help please!!
Cheers,
Paul

How's 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Working for You?

One thing I've noticed on my Pinebook Pro ever since launch is that the 2.4 GHz-band wireless networking appears to be very, very unreliable. It initially works on first connect, but then goes completely dead for long periods with only brief moments of functioning in between, leading to intermittent connections with lots of dropped packets. It feels almost like it's overheating, but I can't quite figure out how to test that. It happens pretty much regardless of signal strength, and on every network and access point I've tried. 5 GHz-band wireless works fine, and has no apparent reliability issues. Curiously, Bluetooth does not appear to have these issues either, despite using the same 2.4 GHz frequency band and presumably similar functionality on the same transceiver chip.
Are others having these 2.4 GHz-specific issues as well? Is anything known about what might be causing them?
Intuitively, I wonder if the antenna in use on the Pinebook Pro is just not well-matched for 2.4 GHz use, and as a result, transmitting on that band is causing the RF energy to mostly get dissipated as heat in the transceiver and cause problems, rather than being radiated. I don't really have much evidence for this, though, and Bluetooth seems to work a little too well for that to actually be the case. Hmm...

Manjaro not booting

I have had my PBP for a few months. I have had Manjaro on it for over a month now (eMMC) and last week updated the mirrors (after not realizing I was looking at older urls). It went through >300 updates, some related to 20.04 I assume.
I booted it after the updates were applied with no issues, but this morning I tried booting and it sits on the orange light and never proceeds to boot. Anyone have any ideas or am I looking at a fresh install?

Hey,
Just wondering if those who have received a Pinetime could give an idea of what, if any, customs and import there were.
Personally would be interested in United Kingdom & Europe, though any part of the world really, as this thread may be helpful to others.
