Is there a better audio / podcast player?
Posted by: motox6 - 08-06-2020, 04:56 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (15)

I really love my pinephone.

And I am very close to giving up my android phone, but

I need an audio player that can play locally downloaded files which includes skip buttons, something like skip 15 seconds, or skip 30 seconds.

And I need the authenticator app to support scanning with the camera.

I suspect I will just have to be patient, or willing to type in long keys, for the authenticator app.

Any suggestions for an audio player with skip-ahead/back capability?

  Trackpad sensitivity
Posted by: barn - 08-06-2020, 12:10 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (1)

I've been using Manjaro+Gnome, and its been great. I like Gnome.

However, just today I was using Manjaro+XFCE for a short time, and the trackpad acceleration and sensitivity is superior!

Does anyone have recommendations on how I can "fix" trackpad sensitivity in Gnome to be as responsive as XFCE? Ive been digging it dconf, but no luck yet.

Has anyone else heard or know about this?

Day 5 with my PBP & PP
Posted by: stozi - 08-06-2020, 11:12 AM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

I'm a Canadian living in Serbia, ordered two Pinebook Pros and a Pinephone a couple months ago via Poland, finally got my hands on them.

I'm very happy with the PBPs. I opened them up and exchanged the screens, because of reasons (a dead pixel, but it seems to have woken up), it was very easy and I can see doing other mods.

The battery occasionally draining faster than the charge can charge it is a bit weird, the speakers are... unfortunate and on one of the units the trackpad is a bit proud in one corner and not so clicky. Maybe a slight corona-related issue, not a huge problem. Everything else is good. They look sharp and run well. Ah, need a toothpick or something to get the microSD card out, a bit too fiddly.

I was on some ancient no-battery beast for months, life was hell. Doing my work daily on the PBP now, huge, huge improvement. If I designed a laptop, it would pretty much be this, but at the same time, if something happens to it, for $200, not a huge deal, which I appreciate.

The phone, physically is pretty impressive. Just can't really do anything with it yet given the state of software development. I'm biased in favor of the postmarketOS/plasma design philosophy, but it's not the most usable option out there atm. Some kind of resolution/hardware acceleration issue too. Trying sailfish next. UBPorts looked nice, I'll give it that.

Any statistics on where PP is sold?

Just curious if there is any place with statistics on PinePhone. What % are sold by country?

PBP does not boot: broken boot partition
Posted by: barn - 08-06-2020, 09:34 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (9)

I was messing with my boot partition on my PBP KDE Edition. Now, it doesnt boot to the OS.

During power-on, the light is orange and the system hangs there. Screen remains black. Power indicator remains orange.

I have not made any changes to uboot or other system properties.

I created a bootable SD card, but it still does not boot; same issue as above (light orange, screen black).

The Wiki mentions that the KDE edition has "uboot on the eMMC. Its boot order is: SD, USB, then eMMC."

Does this mean that I can not boot from SD or USB while my boot partition on eMMC is broken?

Any recommendations how to proceed?
My only thought is to buy a USB to eMMC adapter and restore my backup onto the boot partition. Let me know if there is another way.

Ejection mechanism of microSD slot DOA
Posted by: kuleszdl - 08-06-2020, 05:48 AM - Forum: Rock64 Hardware and Accessories - Replies (2)

Hi,

the ejection mechanism of the microSD slot in my rock64 that I got yesterday seems to be broken - each time I insert the card, it comes right back. I don't know how this mechanism works, but is there a way to fix that apart from soldering in a new slot? Seems a bit odd to send it back just because of such an issue.

Has anyone had this problem already? If yes, how did you fix it?

No internet when using hotspot (NetworkManager)
Posted by: Subsentient - 08-06-2020, 03:21 AM - Forum: PinePhone Software - Replies (5)

I've tried various methods, but I can't seem to get access to the internet from machines I connect to my phone's hotspot. I'm using NetworkManager's create new wifi network feature, though I've tried doing it manually too.

Just seems to refuse to talk to the modem's 4G connection.

I can get it working by using a SOCKS proxy (e.g. ssh -D root@myphonedefaultgw), but that is very limited and has a lot of issues.

I checked with my carrier (Consumer Cellular) and they have hotspot enabled on their end for my account so I doubt it's being filtered or something.

Anyone else have this issue and/or manage to figure it out? Actually posting via my semi-broken SOCKS workaround now.

  UB ports forum
Posted by: Cree - 08-06-2020, 12:32 AM - Forum: UBPorts on PinePhone - Replies (1)

Hey all! Took me forever to realize this but apparently UB ports has its own forum with a pinephone section. It seems thats where devs are more active and likely to pick up on bugs feedback and ideas. Our forum here seems more user based. I like the format here more and hope the ubports team can really tune in, but i would recommend people also post there for the highest likelihood of seeing fixes and improvements. Maybe if both forums could be merged through some api so posts in one are visible in the other, that would be fantastic!.

  Pine64 based IP KVM
Posted by: tuaris - 08-06-2020, 12:05 AM - Forum: Pine A64 Projects, Ideas and Tutorials - No Replies

There is a project that lets you turn a Pi into an IP KVM for a very reasonable cost:
https://github.com/pikvm/pikvm

It currently requires getting an additional accessory for DVI input.

It would be nice if there was some version of the Pine64 that has a built in HDMI input port and supports OTG.
