  Latest firmware for PinePhone modem!
Posted by: Subsentient - 10-13-2020, 09:44 AM - Forum: PinePhone Software - Replies (105)

I'm providing an updated copy of the firmware for the PinePhone's Quectel EG25-G modem.

The flashing utility was provided to me by Quectel support, and the modem firmware from a forum link for another device that uses this modem.

As they don't have an easy download link, perhaps the only way you're going to get it is from me or megous.

NOTE: If compiling C programs, or the idea of modem firmware, or any of these concepts seem alien to you, you should NOT attempt this. This is only for the brave and the wise.

This assumes some knowledge of Linux command lines, as well as having played with the modem previously.

I am attempting to help as this significantly improved my phone's reliability, but if you follow these instructions, you do so at your own risk. I am not responsible for anything that may happen as a result of attempting this, including the destruction of your phone.

For me, this fixed call audio not working at random times, as well as losing control of an outgoing call in progress.

Here is the flashing utility, and here is the modem firmware.

Extract both archives, possibly with "tar xf" if you don't have a good GUI for that.

I pre-compiled the flashing utility for AArch64 Linux, but dynamically linked for glibc. That means it should work on Mobian, Fedora, etc, but not other, weirder systems.
If you can't run the precompiled version, there is a makefile included with the source code, so type "make" to compile it after installing gcc and make from your package manager.

!! DANGER !!: This resets some modem configuration options, and you will probably need to reset them manually before calls work correctly, if you don't use megous' new modem power manager in kernel 5.8 or later. You should update to such a kernel BEFORE proceeeding.

THIS IS A DANGEROUS ACTION THAT CAN DESTROY YOUR MODEM.

Put the extracted qfirehose_good and newfw folders in the same location.
Next, cd to the qfirehose_good folder, and run:

Code:
sudo ./QFirehose -f ../newfw

It should take about a minute or a little longer.
Afterwards, if it says upgrade succeeded, you're good.

If it fails, try a couple more times. If it says something about no such file or directory, you're probably fine, you just have the wrong path specified for newfw.

Lastly, if you're unable to use a newer kernel, here's a dump of good settings from megous' kernel driver. QDAI is the most important and probably the only one you really need to change. Try changing that one first and see if things work normally.

Code:
[   41.248670] modem-power serial1-0: QDAI is '1,1,0,1,0,0,1,1'
[   41.264677] modem-power serial1-0: QCFG 'risignaltype' is '"physical"'
[   41.288660] modem-power serial1-0: QCFG 'urc/ri/ring' is '"pulse",1,1000,5000,"off",1'
[   41.304783] modem-power serial1-0: QCFG 'urc/ri/smsincoming' is '"pulse",1,1'
[   41.324645] modem-power serial1-0: QCFG 'urc/ri/other' is '"off",1,1'
[   41.340632] modem-power serial1-0: QCFG 'urc/ri/pin' is 'uart_ri'
[   41.356644] modem-power serial1-0: QCFG 'urc/delay' is '0'
[   41.372625] modem-power serial1-0: QCFG 'sleepind/level' is '0'
[   41.388666] modem-power serial1-0: QCFG 'wakeupin/level' is '0,0' (changing to '0')
[   41.440653] modem-power serial1-0: QCFG 'ApRstLevel' is '0'
[   41.456689] modem-power serial1-0: QCFG 'ModemRstLevel' is '0'
[   41.472673] modem-power serial1-0: QCFG 'apready' is '0,0,500'
[   41.488913] modem-power serial1-0: QCFG 'airplanecontrol' is '1,0'
[   41.512699] modem-power serial1-0: QCFG 'fast/poweroff' is '1'

And, the QFirehose source code will make you cry. I'm surprised it works. Just warning you.

  How long does it take to get a reply in a ticket?

Hello,

Has anyone here created a ticket with Pine64 regarding a hardware issue on a device? Specifically, the PinePhone.

Cheers

  Mobian for x86_64
Posted by: paju1986 - 10-13-2020, 03:22 AM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (1)

Hi.

I would like to ask if it is possible to have x86_64 builds of Mobian.
I have a gpd win 2 with a 6inch touch screen and would be nice to have phosh on it, there is also multiple x86_64 tablets out there that will benefit from it too.

Regards!

Please remove google captcha from registration.

Many people move away from Android and avoid google services because google does not respect users privacy. I purchased a PineTab and would like to help improve this product. I tried to register at this forum without success. Finally it was only possible by allowing the access to google servers and use the captcha. Please remove google from this website. Many people are using pine products just because they do not want to use google products and services. I appreciate it so much that I can use a PineTab running mobian!

Just piqued my curiosity. Its been there the whole time but never paid attention. Obviously it appears to be a messaging app, but i can't find any nomenclature on it.

  bluetooth firmware update
Posted by: pjsf - 10-12-2020, 10:34 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PineTime - Replies (2)

Just flashed the 0.8.2 version of infinitime via nrf connect upgrading from the shipped firmware, after downloading it the pinetime automatically rebooted (expected), then froze up - blank screen no response to button pressing or long hold (bricked). I had to disconnect the battery to get it to restart. Then, strangely, it booted into 0.8.2 all working fine. Am I missing something here? is there some way to get the effect of disconnecting the battery in this situation without actually doing it? Otherwise this might be a problem for the sealed units  now shipping.

  Wifi very slow on PBP Manjaro
Posted by: motezart - 10-12-2020, 05:26 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (3)

My pbp  is 1 month old running default Manjaro it came with.

I am able to connect to wifi but I am only gettting 0.33, and up to 1,5 Mbits/s. On the same connection my phone get 12+ Mbits/s.

What are some tips for me to debug this? I'm not even sure how to do the proper updates.

So far I've done all the updates in the software center, in whatever the UI system is on Manjaro (separate question: what is the UI/GUI called on Manjaro), and ran pamac update && paman upgrade and this did some stuff.

  Won't boot with SATA card
Posted by: rjzak - 10-12-2020, 05:23 PM - Forum: RockPro64 Hardware and Accessories - Replies (4)

I'm trying to set up the Pine64 NAS. Here's what I've done:

* Installed Armbian Focal 20.04 on to the eMMC module, using Pine64 5A adapter.
* System worked fine, installed software. No problems.
* Installed the SATA card from Pine64, no hard drives yet. lspci shows the card.
* Installed 2 Seagate Iron Wolf HDD
* Booted the system, and it sees /dev/sda and /dev/sdb.
* Installed mdadm, created a new partition /dev/md0 based on /dev/sda and /dev/sdb.
* Formatted /dev/md0 with XFS.
* No problems yet.
* Tried to copy a large movie file to the /dev/md0 partition, got an I/O error. Didn't save the error unfortunately, but looking back at my search history shows the line "md: super_written gets error=10"
* I install the latest Armbian, Focal 20.08.9, Linux kernel:
uname -a
Linux rockpro64 5.8.13-rockchip64 #20.08.8 SMP PREEMPT Mon Oct 5 15:59:02 CEST 2020 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux
* I saw a few posts about the hard drives drawing too much power, so I purchased a 10A adapter from Amazon.
* Booted the RockPro64 with the new 10A adapter: Nothing. No lights, no fan.
* Booted the RockPro64 with the original Pine64 5A adapter: Nothing. No lights, no fan.
* Removed the SATA card.
* Booted the RockPro64 with the new 10A adapter: Boots fine, I can SSH in, all seems good.
* Powered off, connected SATA card with hard drives disconnected.
* Booted again with 10A adapter: Nothing, no lights, no fan.

Any thoughts? Did the SATA adapter somehow die? I've seen a few posts about using a Marvell SATA adapter, but I don't want to keep buying extra things as replacement for the items which should have worked.
I'm confident that these items work fine:
* Hard drives
* RockPro64 board
* 10A adapter

I have my doubts about the SATA adapter.

How should I proceed? The only thing that looks like a version marking on the SATA card is: SU-SATA3-T2 Ver. 005.

  Mobian License
Posted by: natasha - 10-12-2020, 01:22 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (3)

Hi

I had some problems trying to post an image of pinephone showing mobian apps. My image was removed due to: "Copyright violation: c:COM: DW of phone GUI"

MObian is GNU/Linux right? Can I take a picture of pinephone using mobian, showing apps ? or is is a Copyright violation?

The image was:
[Image: Neo-Image-0-6-20201012163717.jpg]

So, if I am free to share my photograph how can I prove it?
Thanks!

For more information, I got this answer to my complain:
The license of the operating system source code (Mobian Linux) is not necessarily the same as the icons and/or visual manifestation thereof. As an inverse example: a Firefox logo displayed on a Windows 10 desktop would not be subject to Microsoft's copyright on the latter. Do you have a link specifically addressing the status of the GUI/icons? Per COM:EVID, this is something you must provide. (""In all cases the uploader must provide appropriate evidence to demonstrate either that the file is in the public domain.")

This was my answer:
Mobian ( https://wiki.mobian-project.org/ ) is under CC Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International ( https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ ). Anyone is free to "copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format ". I also mention PinePhone was running 'Mobian' cdrediting the OS.

The applications icons are part of the Mobian project: https://wiki.mobian-project.org/doku.php?id=apps

Anything else I should mention?

  Opening the back and screen cracks
Posted by: quipacorn - 10-12-2020, 01:01 PM - Forum: PineTab Hardware - No Replies

Hi all,

I've joined the ranks of those with a cracked digitizer/screen from opening and closing the back panel. This was after I installed a tempered glass screen protector, so I wonder if that's maybe part of the cause (possibly not letting the screen flex ever so slightly when snapping the back on?). With my first pinetab I opened and closed the back 4+ times for testing cables and such (bad touchscreen) with zero issues. With this one, I opened it only once to swap in a higher capacity eMMC, when snapping it back together it didn't feel like there was any extra tension/stress but it wound up with a corner crack. Easy enough to move the tray to the other side so losing touch there isn't a big deal, still going to be one of the first in line to buy a replacement screen if/when they're available.

So I pose a question/poll. Just wondering how many have popped it open and reassembled without issue or have had a screen crack. Furthermore, if the screen cracked was there a screen protector involved? Wondering if this might be a common mode of failure or not.
