  Terminal help
Posted by: noob444 - 10-22-2020, 02:51 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (4)

Hi all!

I've been using Mobian on a Braveheart for a while now and I'm really impressed with the project so far.

My plan right now is to write some simple bash scripts for various purposes. I'm sure it's documented somewhere but I figured I ask here first. I would be very happy if some of you Linux experts out there could help me out.

How do I toggle the following functionalities (devices) on or off only using the Kings cross terminal:

1) Wifi?
2) Bluetooth?
3) Modem?
4) LTE?

  Date and Time Issues
Posted by: MarkF - 10-22-2020, 01:58 PM - Forum: SailfishOS on PinePhone - Replies (1)

Hi All,

I've flashed Sailfish onto my Pinephone convergence (3GB/32GB) and am having trouble getting the time and date right.  If I set it to automatic update, it doesn't update at all and is months out.  If I switch auto update off, it seems to allow me to change the date and time, but actually completely ignores what I set it to and keeps it at the setting it was at beforehand.

Since the time and date are in the past, the browser refuses to work with just about any website, because of security certificates etc.  I really hope this issue is fixable - can anyone help?

  NVMe doesn't show up
Posted by: Seferi - 10-22-2020, 02:41 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (19)

Hi, I just got my pinebook pro. Upon playing it a little bit, I installed manjaro i3 on the emmc. And Installed a NVMe but for some reason NVMe doesn't show up. Do I have to somehow enable the NVMe ? (script etc.) It also doesn't show up when I do df -h
When I switch on the pinebook, power led lights up orange for 5 seconds and then turns to green is it normal?
I appreciate if you could help. Thanks in advance.

Bug masquerading and truncated sms; mis-patched phone calls
Posted by: HLing - 10-21-2020, 09:11 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (2)

Some time in September I called someone I had spoken to two, three times prior. This time a different person answered. It took a few second before I realized it.  I double checked afterwards. It did not show that I dialed the 2nd person.  Same day, similar situation, the phone call went to the voicemail of yet another friend of mine whom i did not intend to call.

The above happened in one day. Hasn't happened again since.

Today, it was with sms. I received a sms that was clearly from my sister, but it came under a friend whom i hadn't been texting since 2 days ago. When I double checked with my sister, I found that I received 2/3 of her text, and the end of the text I received was not from her. Nor was it from the friend.

Any insights?

  App installation issues on PBP
Posted by: pineitup - 10-21-2020, 06:23 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - No Replies

I'm having a hard time setting up some basic apps I work with such as bitwarden password manager, until I was able to set up various package installers.

Now I'm really stuck on having the USB-C external display work, and installing additional apps I need like the Tor browser, Signal messaging app, standard notes and electron mail.
I tried multiple ways described online to install the tor browser but they all fail, including installation from source AUR package which says it's not compatible with the aarch64 architecture. The same happened with a couple of other apps.

How can I install such apps as Tor and Signal etc? And I suppose the same issues of hardware compatability be applicable if I use any other OS via sd card?

  EB-BJ700CBE batteries
Posted by: duncan_bayne - 10-21-2020, 05:23 PM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (7)

I recently purchased a EB-BJ700CBE battery from eBay, and can confirm the FAQ note:

Quote:There is a report that model "EB-BJ700CBE" might be incompatible

The EB-BJ700CBE is indeed physically incompatible with the Braveheart Edition PinePhone, due to small plastic feet on the bottom of the battery:

However!  A few seconds with a Dremel and a sanding drum, and the feet were no more:

The battery now fits, and seems to work as expected.  To be super clear, I'm not 100% sure of the electrical compatibility, despite it appearing to work just fine (takes a charge, and runs the phone without issue). But the physical compatibility was an easy fix - just remove the little plastic feet.

  no "release file"?
Posted by: HLing - 10-21-2020, 05:03 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (4)

I have been getting this error message for a while when i issue
'sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y':

E: The repository 'http://security.debian.org bullseye/updates Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can 't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.

So i would issue:

'sudo apt full-upgrade' instead and it seems to get done.

Am i missing out on anything this way?

Keyboard woes continue but somewhat improved
Posted by: kendew - 10-21-2020, 02:32 PM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (6)

This thread continues the thread I posted some time ago.  Forgive me if that's not good protocol.  That thread received no replies and since then I've done a lot of my own trial and error research making the content of this post quite different.  Also, being a little more familiar with this forum I thought it might fit better in this category.

My basic problem is that the computer keyboard switches from upper to lower case on its own while I'm trying to type, making it pretty useless, especially for any work that is case sensitive, like terminal commands.

I just want to share my progress:

First, I tried various installs like Fedora and Debian from microSD card and found the same faulty behavior.  I tried installing Arch but of course that was impossible due to all the CLI input needed.  Tried different DEs,  KDE, Cinnamon, Lumina, LXQt and Xfce with no luck.    For now I am using Fedora with Openbox.  That the problem still persists with an external USB keyboard tells me maybe it's not a keyboard hardware problem.  But what sort of problem is it then?
After much trial and error I noticed:
1.   " sudo udevadm trigger --subsystem-match=input --action=change "
would temporarily stop the problem.  But the problem could revert in a matter of seconds.
2.  " xev -event keyboard  "
from terminal indicated a shift key problem.  This seemed logical as the problem mainly involves constant back and forth switching between upper and lower case.
3.  Installing and running onboard gave me a clear visual image of this shift key problem. Onboard showed me that the computer was by itself constantly typing the shift key, often many times a minute.  I am unsure of the cause, but I pinpointed the problem to the right shift key.
4.  Disabling the right shift key with " xmodmap -e 'keycode 62=' " alleviated the problem.  Placing this code in autostart files for the user and desktop environments helped make the keyboard somewhat usable as can be seen by the fact I am using the PBP to type this.
However, besides not being able to use the right shift key, I am also not able to type uppercase V, B, or M keys.  I am able to type them using Caps Lock.
Of course, the original problem persists before login when typing password, which can be tricky.  I haven't been able to figure out how to make these changes during boot, before the login window appears.

Perhaps with this information you can help me in getting to the root cause of the problem.  I think it would be in the interest of making a better Pinebook.

At the moment I have a rather crippled computer.

All help, hints, info much appreciated.
Kendew

Could information be printed on the inside back cover?
Posted by: desca - 10-21-2020, 02:15 PM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - No Replies

For example, the meaning of each switch, how the sd and sim cards go in, information that is currently small/hard to read. Or would that be difficult/costly?

  Serial console accessible from outside
Posted by: as400 - 10-21-2020, 12:49 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (4)

I was wondering if the serial connector on the mainboard is actually usable.
The answer is yes, it is. So with additional micro usb-uart adapter I have serial console accessible from outside.

It's not perfect since there is not much space inside. Even with such a small adapter you have to fight for every tenth of mm.
But it's better than opening the case everytime serial console is needed.
