Storeman not preinstalled for some reason.
Webcat initially did not work: ran zypper refresh && zypper dup which updated webkitengine, then downloaded storeman rpm.
Sim card recognised, can't verify calls/sms due to network problems in the area.
Some glitches in UI, occasional stalls and ssh dropped when display timed out.

  SSH over USB
Posted by: 3x5co - 12-04-2020, 11:24 AM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (14)

I'm running Ubuntu on my desktops, and Mobian on the phone. I can SSH over LAN pretty easily, but I would like to connect directly over USB, if possible.

As a bonus, it could be nice if I could connect to my Mobian phone over LAN, but through the USB. I just figure it would faster than over wi-fi, which is a little spotty in my house.

Posted by: Martin87 - 12-04-2020, 09:42 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PineTab - Replies (5)

Hi there.
From time to time I visit the PINE64 shop because I am interested in a PineTab.
Every time it is "Out of stock ". Have anybody an idea at what time it will available?
Best regards - Martin

  Wiki and file uploads
Posted by: dsimic - 12-04-2020, 07:23 AM - Forum: General - Replies (7)

Hello,

I'd like to contribute to the Pine64 Wiki, and I need to upload a couple of PDF files that contain PineBook Pro component datasheets.  How do I actually do that?  The file upload limit on the Wiki is only 2 MB, and it also doesn't seem to permit uploads of PDF files.

On the other hand, there are already a bunch of files on files.pine64.org, so there must be a way for uoloading files.

Any help would be appreciated.

Shocked Possible reason why MANY applications dont work properly in Manjaro on the PinePhone
Posted by: kern707 - 12-04-2020, 04:54 AM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (4)

Hello everybody,

I think that I might have found a clue on why does so many linux applications does not work correctly, or sometimes not at all on PinePhone with Manjaro-arm (and possibly other PinePhone linux distros).

It might not have anything to do with how the developer of the software have developed the application, but a lot to do with the certain libs that were used - which are sometimes compiled differently for different linux distributions.

The clue came from a comment left by a creator of a certain linux application, to a bug report that was targeted at a PinePhone:
https://github.com/johnfactotum/foliate/issues/635

I quote the developer:

"The file chooser dialog is not part of Foliate. It's provided by whatever xdg-desktop-portal backend you're using, or else it will use the default GTK dialog.

For the GTK bug, see https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/2194

On the Librem5, I believe they're shipping a patched version of GTK, the result of which can be seen in this screenshot."

(the discussed screenshot can be seen here: https://puri.sm/wp-content/uploads/2020/...-11-15.png)

The developer of the Foliate application points out to the guy who have opened a bug report, that the bug has nothing to do with the software it self, and that he is using some type of component of GTK in his application, so what people will see on the screen depends on what is supplied with their operating system.

So probably certain application which fail to work, or are unable to adjust their UI to a mobile device, is because certain GUI libraries that are supplied / compiled together with the said linux distro needs to be tweaked for a mobile screen.

If anybody from the Manjaro-arm team get to see this thread, please let us know, what can be done? could the GTK version that ships with Manjaro can be tweaked / patched to have applications built using GTK (many) to display correctly on the PinePhone' screen?

EDIT: just had a look on this source code: https://source.puri.sm/Librem5/debs/gtk
This is gtk tweaked to work with a phone interface

  XFCE Window Tiling
Posted by: Telefza - 12-03-2020, 03:53 PM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (2)

I currently use XFCE on my Pinebook pro and most is fine. But I really miss the basic tiling from Gnome(is running on a different machine): pressing `super`+ arrow keys makes the current window tile to the left, right or full screen(up).

There is an option in Window Manager -> Keyboard for 'Tile window to the left', but it doesn't really work for me.

1.Setting  and using `super`+ `Left_Arrow` only works when I first press `Left_Arrow`. But usually I do not think about about which of the keys I press first.

2. It arbitrarily does not work half the time and when it works it sometimes takes just a bit long.

I tried the same setting on an hp stream 11 -- also fairly low power -- and it works perfectly fine and is really quick.

Anybody else have this problem?

  Recommended kits to buy?
Posted by: Silk - 12-03-2020, 02:50 PM - Forum: Getting Started - Replies (1)

Looking for fun projects to do with my 64+

I've seen a lot of kits available on Amazon that are specific to the Rasberry Pi, would these all be compatible with the 64+?

To that end, any project ideas people would recommend for a complete noob that wants to learn about this stuff, please let me know of them!

Thanks

Thermal imaging solution board for the PinePhone board
Posted by: jnpine - 12-03-2020, 02:23 PM - Forum: PinePhone Accessories - Replies (2)

Hi all,

I just want to share my design for a sensor board that is planned to be used with the PinePhone along with a flex breakout board, I call it the PineEye.

The sensor is the Panasonic AMG8833 which is a grid-array infrared sensor which is used for thermal imaging.

Get design files here:
https://github.com/jnavarro7/pineeye_for_pinephone

Order boards directly from here:
https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/Z65YHSF2

I hope the community likes this projects and maybe start working on drivers which are still needed.
Please let me know of any comments or concerns.
I have done some initial test with the board, the sensor is seen by the PinePhone.

In the future I plan to create different sensor or peripheral boards for the PinePhone.

  Number Share
Posted by: matt_the_hall - 12-03-2020, 12:15 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (1)

Hello,

I'm thinking of purchasing a Pine phone and I'm wondering if it is compatible with Verizon's Number Share. Number Share allows texts and phone calls to be forwarded from a primary phone to another device. In my case, I would want the Pine phone to be my primary phone, and then forward to a Light Phone II. Thanks for any information/advice you can provide.
