Will the Pinecil work for repairing iPods, in particular the 30pin port connector?
Posted by: drewdavis - 08-27-2024, 08:01 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

I am looking to upgrade my soldering iron, and found the Pinecil V2 on the web googling. I don't know if it's sold here in Australia yet.

Will it suffice to do micro soldering, for pins in an iPod's 30pin Port connector?

Thanks in advance.

  New PinePhone user issues
Posted by: greenpineuser - 08-23-2024, 12:45 PM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (8)

Good day!

I received my PinePhone Beta Edition the other day and have input my nano-SIM. The following are issues I have getting the phone prepped for usage.

INFO

Kernel: 5.18.0-1-MANJARO-ARM

MODEM

The phone states "Modem not available" when I navigate the settings menu (Settings > Cellular Network > (input pword)  > "Modem not available")

Do I need to update APN settings? If so, how can I when https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/PinePhone_A...sma_Mobile states "TBD"?

UPDATES

The phone notifies me via the home screen that updates are available, but fails to implement them and simply requests me to try again later.

I attempted updating via sudo pacman -Syu

I am prompted to replace many instances of <package_name> w/ <extra/package_name>

Next, I am notified that...
Code:
:: There are 2 providers available for dbus-units::: Repository core
    1) dbus-broker-units     2) dbus-daemon-units

Selecting either option is irrelevant to the outcome

Code:
looking for conflicting packages...
:: libgpiod1 and libgpiod are in conflict. Remove libgpiod? [y/N]

Selecting either option cancels the update.

I attempted to resolve the issue via https://github.com/pikvm/pikvm/issues/1211. Executing sudo pacman -S libgpiod states the package is currently updated and will reinstall. Executing sudo pacman -Syu following the previous command provides no difference

LOCK SCREEN

Each time the phone sleeps and re-awakes, I get an error that is not entirely discernible because the screen crops much of it out. I just know it recommends the execution of loginctl unlock-session c1. Note that this message only appears to happen when the phone induces automatic lockout (I have set it to 30 sec). If I manually hit the power button to sleep and again to awake it functions normally,

Although I just got the phone, I know for certain that this issue arose following my attempts to update (see section 2.1).

Here is what I can read of the error message. Each " ... " signifies a break in the error message due to the mentioned cropping.

Error msg: "locker is broken and unlocking is not possible ... to unlock switch to a virtual terminal (e.g. Ctr ... log in and execute the command: loginctl unlock-session c1 ... out of the virtual session by pressing Ctrl+D, a ... back to the running session (Ctrl+Alt+F2)."

I have to shut off and power on the device in order to get a normal unlock screen. If kept on instead, I get a boot screen(?) with touch screen controllable mouse w/out keyboard. Screen: https://gitlab.com/proj1113738/pinephone...or_01.jpeg

FORMATTING

Regarding the post, I apologize for any formatting issues. Each time I saved as draft, the forum seemed to completely change the spacing and numbered lists. Anyone have similar issues?

Could Someone Give Advice on Optimising Pinebook Pro for Software Development?
Posted by: Octaviah - 08-23-2024, 12:45 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

Hello everyone  Rolleyes

I hope everyone is well I am looking for the collective wisdom of this community on optimising the Pinebook Pro for software development applications. I have been using the Pinebook Pro for a few months and have been very happy with its capabilities. But I have experienced a few issues and would like to look for advice on how to effectively address them.

My current setup
Manjaro ARM. I have kept with this because it is the default, but I am prepared to try other options if they provide better performance for development work.
Default eMMC I have been thinking about upgrading to an NVMe SSD; but have not taken the step yet.
Python is my primary programming language, followed by web development with React and Node.js and some light Java and C++ work.
I use Visual Studio Code and; on occasion; JetBrains IDEs.

  • When working on larger codebases, particularly ones involving significant web development such as hosting a local server with many Node.js processes; I have noticed that the pinebook pro lags slightly. There are intermittent lags and delays that affect my workflow. Is this something that other people have experienced? If yes; what adjustments and upgrades did you find to be beneficial in resolving these issues?
  • While I enjoy the pinebook pro movement; I have discovered that the battery runs faster when I do heavier tasks; such as working with Docker and generating code. I am asking whether there are any tips or strategies for increasing battery life during development sessions. Would a different operating system assist; or are there specific manjaro settings that I need change?
  • I have read that heat concerns might cause performance slowdown under heavy loads. I am thinking about installing a thermal pad and maybe even a modest fan mod. Has anyone tried these modifications? If so; how was your experience; and would you recommend taking this route?
  • I am really considering upgrading to an NVMe SSD for increased performance; but I have heard different opinions about how well the Pinebook Pro handles NVMe disks. Did you notice a difference in performance after making this upgrade? Were there any compatibility concerns, or did certain brands/models of SSDs perform better than others?
  • I am enthusiastic about researching different software setups. would using a lightweight desktop environment such as XFCE and LXQt improve the development experience over the usual setup? Or possibly a different Linux distribution entirely?

Also I explored some topics related to this Happy eMMC devops and SDcard OS usage for Pinebook Pro Newbies but I did not get the sufficient solution of my query so I would really want to get some help from a more experienced person

I am really enjoying my Pinebook Pro and hope to get the most out of it for my software development needs. I'd like to hear from other developers who have optimised their Pinebook Pro for comparable uses. Any insights; suggestions; or shared experiences are much appreciated

Thank you in advance for your help Heart Rolleyes

I look forward to hearing from the community.

  8/24 status of JumpDrive
Posted by: shengchieh - 08-21-2024, 12:51 PM - Forum: PinePhone Software - Replies (5)

Hi Pinephone Geeks

I noticed the latest version of JumpDrive is 0.8 released May 31, 2021.

https://github.com/dreemurrs-embedded/Ju...e/releases

Is this software eventually discontinued?  Is there a successor?

Bottom Line:

Is this still the only easy GUI way to install live Manjaro/Phosh onto pinephone's hard drive?

-----

Just asking before I do some works with JumpDrive.

Thank in advanced for your input.

Sheng-Chieh

Sad Booting and re-booting
Posted by: gluey - 08-21-2024, 03:22 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinecil - Replies (1)

Hello all, first thread here Smile

I have been using my v1 Pinceil for a few months, and have been loving it.
I've been connecting it to a 12v DC adapter and had no issues thus far.

Lately, my pencil have been shutting down while warming up, so I thought that it was done for and ordered me a v2 Pinecil.
Upon connecting the v2, the same thing happens. I can enter the configuration mode, and setup everything but as soon as the warm-up stage starts, it re-boots.

I've tried replacing the DC adapter - same result, same for trying out different tips and also different electric sockets.

Any ideas?

  Mobian OS
Posted by: stefan_hdb - 08-19-2024, 07:56 AM - Forum: PineTab Software - Replies (1)

Dear all,

I have installed Mobian on the pinetab 2 using an SD-card. The kernel is Linux 6.8.-rockchip. I can connect to Wifi via a USB-dongle. Is it possible to move to another kernel which includes the bes2600 driver?

Thanks an kind regards,
Stefan

  Postmarket OS
Posted by: stefan_hdb - 08-19-2024, 07:39 AM - Forum: PineTab Software - Replies (3)

Dear all,

I have installed postmarket OS on the pinetab2 with the lxqt desktop, using pmbootstrap. The result is quite nice for my use case. However, I can connect to Wifi, using a USB dongle (RALINK in my case). But I cannot establish a Wifi-connection using the build-in modem / WLAN0. For this, it is possible to select a network and enter a password, but the connection will not be established. Does anybody know a solution for this problem?

Thanks and kind regards,
Stefan

Converting the Pinebook Pro into a CrowView Note like device
Posted by: 8jef - 08-18-2024, 05:42 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - No Replies

Hi,

Would anyone know about a way to plug a phone or another device into the PBP usb-c port, and use the PBP as a screen-keyboard-trackpad-battery combo device similar to the CrowView Note 14-inch?[url=https://www.unfinishedman.com/crowview-note-14-inch-monitor-with-keyboard-review/][/url]

That would be a most powerful way to extend the PBP's life much beyond its actual limitations, considering one could still use it as a full featured laptop as well.

Thanks in advance for any clue about a software solution for doing that.
