  Armbian/Ubuntu for Rockbox
Posted by: Wizzard - 05-12-2021, 01:46 PM - Forum: Linux on Rock64 - Replies (5)

Rockbox is no longer useful as a TV box because it is too slow so I tried running Armbian.

It does not boot though, even with Rockbox DTB from Recalbox. Any idea, why?

  Telegran connection problems
Posted by: Brad - 05-12-2021, 12:56 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - No Replies

Hi all
I have Mobian installed on a pinephone 64 and most things work fine for me as I don't really ask a phone to do that much.  I have Telegram up and running but have the following problem.

I can connect to Telegram via wifi (modem/router) at home where I have no mobile connection without an issue.  When I get into mobile range the connection will initially be fine and then without doing anything to the phone (I don't turn it off or even make a call) it will lost connectivity.  It will get into an endless cycle of trying to reconnect and no amount of restarting or whatever will help.  It is important to say that it will be initially be connected to the mobile network and works fine but then drops out.  If I leave it, not connected and trying to reconnect, and then drivehome and losing mobile coverage the phone automatically connects to the modem which it always does and then Telegram is fine again.

I've searched the forums in debian but I can't find anything addressing this issue.  Does anybody have similar experiences or a fix/suggestion for this?

Thanks for any help.

[driver dev] SDMMC , not behaving
Posted by: mgrunditz - 05-12-2021, 12:37 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (3)

Hi

We are working on a SDMMC driver for RISC OS.

On my Pinebook Pro I get unexpected behavior , writing to card fails (CRC errors) , using internal dma IDMAC.
I don't know if it relates , but when trying out several linux distros, only debian worked. The default
installation on eMMC did work just fine.

So I like to know if this is a known issue on some PBP's or if it is a pure software issue.

The privacy switches, try flipping the headset/uart one.

Won't boot - Failed to read Who-Am-I register
Posted by: nocargo - 05-12-2021, 12:07 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (6)

Hi,
I just received my Beta PinePhone (convergence). It booted up just fine. Then when I applied the updater (for 324 updates) a reboot was required. After rebooting the phone gets stuck with the message 'Failed to read Who-Am-I register' and won't boot anymore. Volume up + Power also doesn't seems to boot to recovery mode.
What do I do ?

Sincere,

  phosh proximity sensor toggle script

id | grep root || sudo $0
NUMBER=`cat /sys/module/stk3310/drivers/i2c\:stk3310/2-0048/iio\:device2/in_proximity_scale`
if [ $NUMBER = 0.100000 ]
then
  echo turning off
  echo 6.4 > /sys/module/stk3310/drivers/i2c\:stk3310/2-0048/iio\:device2/in_proximity_scale
else
  echo turning on
  echo 0.1 > /sys/module/stk3310/drivers/i2c\:stk3310/2-0048/iio\:device2/in_proximity_scale
fi

works for me under manjaro phosh, YMMV
if it doesnt work see if that "iio\:device2" became device 1 or 0 or ...

is there an easy way to tie this to an icon?

How should pinephone integrate with Desktop?
Posted by: gamerminstrel - 05-12-2021, 11:01 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (9)

Right now, if you have an Android device and a Chromebook there is some pretty slick integration between the two. Really things like your text messages will sync onto the Chromebook if you let it, and you can pair up tabs (assuming you use chrome on Android). Supposedly something similar happens between iPhone and Macbooks, but I will never own those devices to find out.

This kind of integration is cool and convenient to a lot of people. I know Firefox will let you sync tabs in theory, but is there a way to sync things like text messages or notifications?

Do you think the Pinephone should be able to pair up with a Linux desktop in the same way? I like the idea personally, but the Pinephone seems to be changing the paradigm with convergence. Why sync up to a desktop/laptop when it can *become* the desktop when plugged into a dock?

  pinephone drops cellular network
Posted by: Rainer - 05-12-2021, 08:52 AM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (28)

hello,

please excuse my ignorance, i'm not really sure sometimes what are hardware issues and what fall under the software category.

i'm using the latest (updated?) version of manjaro-arm and have noticed that my cellular network has disappeared suddenly. after i restart the network reappears. i'm not sure if this relates to my previous post on 'modem shows no carrier messages' which seemed to have stopped after updating. where can i find some log messages to begin to troubleshoot this issue?

i'm using the koodo/telus network in canada.

thanks.

PinePhone as portable music player with RME Babyface Pro USB audio interface
Posted by: Be. - 05-12-2021, 01:31 AM - Forum: PinePhone Accessories - Replies (4)

After over 5 years of owning my Babyface Pro I have finally figured out a practical way to use it outside on battery power thanks to the PinePhone. Despite the Babyface Pro being USB audio class compliant, it does not work with whatever Android puts on top of ALSA. I suspect that has something to do the alternate USB configuration which presents only 2 channels for iOS applications, but I have not actually looked into the problem. Anyway, I now have a solution with my PinePhone:

I am using the USB hub that comes with the PinePhone "convergence package" and plugging the Babyface Pro into it. I am plugging the battery into the USB-C Power Delivery port on the hub, which powers both the Babyface Pro and the PinePhone. The PinePhone charges really slowly from the hub, but importantly, it does not drain battery so it can keep playing for a long time.

I have my entire music collection, which is currently 174 GB of FLACs, on a 256 GB microSD card in the PinePhone. I set a fixed mount point for the microSD card in /etc/fstab so music players have a consistent path to scan for music (mounting from Profile or GNOME Files mounts to a different path each time and I'm not sure what determines that path). I have Elisa and Lollypop on my PinePhone. I prefer Elisa, which is what I use on my laptop, but it currently has an annoying bug with one time stuttering a few seconds into the start of tracks, so I am using Lollypop for now. There are several unrelated issues which prevent me from using the PinePhone as my daily driver phone for now, but I have figured out how to make it useful as a portable music player already so it's not just a fun toy.

The speaker is my trusty old Bose Sounddock Portable which is still working well after 10 years. This battery has a 20 V DC output so I can charge the Bose Sounddock Portable directly without needing an inverter and the bulky AC adapter that came with the Bose Sounddock Portable. Its capacity is huge with 266 Wh. I suspect I could use this setup over a whole weekend at a festival without needing to recharge the battery.

This whole setup fits in a normal size backpack and it isn't too heavy.

Notably, there is a faint high pitched ringing sound when everything is connected which goes away if I disconnect the battery from the Bose Sounddock Portable. I do not know what causes that but it is not too bothersome when music is playing. I would appreciate any suggestions to investigate or alleviate that.
