  Video playback error (Totem/Videos)
Posted by: Zebulon Walton - 08-19-2021, 05:37 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - No Replies

I'm running the 8/19 nightly build on an SD card to try out the transition to Bullseye. I've got things mostly working OK but have found that the built-in video player (Totem, labeled "Videos" in the Phosh GUI) isn't working. The following is displayed when trying to play any video:

Code:
                 An error occurred

Driver did not accept the bitstream parameters.

Both vlc and mpv do work but are very choppy, not really usable but good enough that I know the mp4 files are OK. Is there a way to fix Totem, or is it a matter of just waiting for further updates?

Loving Ubuntu Touch! But no MMS?!?
Posted by: remington_luger - 08-19-2021, 05:25 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (3)

The kernel upgrade version is working smooth as silk, just what I need - only I cannot send or receive mms, pics or emojis...

I have tried all the APN settings for my carrier (AT&T) that I can find on their site  and the pinephone wiki.  no luck...

What now?  if I can't get MMS to work on the Pine, I ordered a Moto G7 to flash with LineageOS.

FYI like Mobian pretty well too, but Ubuntu is so much smoother and the camera is actually somewhat usable.

  pogo contacts for usb
Posted by: ecloud - 08-19-2021, 04:23 PM - Forum: PineNote Hardware - Replies (2)

I want to try to use it as a laptop: I could probably make a mechanical ergo keyboard with some sort of hinge mechanism to prop up the tablet.  So probably the easiest way to connect is if it has USB contacts on the side (host mode USB) which can sit onto pogo pins on the keyboard.  Of course those are often held in place with magnets...

  Pine Rock64 eMMC lifespan
Posted by: moonspell79 - 08-19-2021, 05:59 AM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCK64 - Replies (3)

Hello,

I am looking for SBC with long lifespan. I used arduino boards for some time, but for next project need more power and functionality.
Can someone advice if Rock64 with 16GB eMMC card can work 24/7 for at least 2-3 years? I am aware of lifetime limitation for SD cards, that is why I choose eMMC instead, but never used that and would like to get some opinions before I buy hardware.

Thanks
Michal

Exclamation "6" Key direly needed for 11" Pinebook
Posted by: Corkonian - 08-18-2021, 10:51 PM - Forum: Pinebook Hardware and Accessories - Replies (1)

As strange as it might seem, but I still love my Pinebook.
My Pinebook and my Pinebook Pro are still daily drivers and they still do their respective jobs.
But unfortunately, my Pinebook keyboard lost the "6" key.
So, if anyone has a "6" key - please get in touch as I would hate to throw away a perfectly good computer just because a single keycap went missing...

Problems with pinetime watch face simulator
Posted by: Elements - 08-18-2021, 03:05 PM - Forum: Development Discussion on PineTime - No Replies

hi, so ive been attempting to setup the pinetime watchface simulator using the tutorial (https://lupyuen.github.io/pinetime-rust-mynewt/articles/simulator#enable-github-pages) and have come across multiple problems which i have been able to fix. The most recent problem i have encountered is with 'Build LVGL for webassembly'. it gives me this super long log(hence the pastebin link) which i dont understand what is wrong or what its even trying to do. i am rather new to this so i apologize if i dont really know what i am doing. i really want to learn how to make a custom watch face so help would be greatly appreciated!

Bluetooth - connect multiple devices simultaneously?
Posted by: eoj - 08-18-2021, 07:43 AM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - No Replies

Hi all, I'm trying to connect my bluetooth headphones for audio and bluetooth keyboard for typing, but it seems like I must choose one or the other. When I have the headphones connected, nothing gets typed by my keyboard. When I have my keyboard working, my headphones don't show up as an audio output. Is this a known limitation or is there a fix? They both work fine exclusively.

I am using a UBPorts Community Edition PinePhone with the desolder USB C fix and running Manjaro Plasma 20210801 with all updates performed through Discover.

Thank you!

  Nemo is back!
Posted by: defactofactotum - 08-18-2021, 02:20 AM - Forum: Nemo Mobile on PinePhone - Replies (12)

Nemo mobile is back after some time in the wilderness looking for a new base OS...which turns out to be Manjaro. In the process it has moved even further away from sailfishos, while still sharing some UI and navigation.
You can download images from https://img.nemomobile.net/ or from https://github.com/jmlich/nemo-images/releases.
Read the blogs at https://nemomobile.net/ for more info; telegram group: https://t.me/NemoMobile
Currently working: see the list at https://nemomobile.net/pages/status-matrix/
Apps can be installed using pacman or flatpak but may not scale well.
Overall Nemo is currently at the level many of the other OSs were at when the pinephone came out, but has the advantage that it's a real mobile OS, not a hacked desktop. Development will hopefully be much quicker as solutions are borrowed from the other OSs.

LED not working on 3GB variant
Posted by: IVp - 08-18-2021, 01:08 AM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (2)

Greeting,

I remember that in January to be surprised that the led did absolutely nothing when booting up after replacing the board from an UBports version to the 3GB replacement version. I even thought that I broke the board all together because without a boot image and with no led feedback there is no visible difference between a dead phone and a phone that is perfectly fine but has not boot image.
Since everything else worked fine in different images, I assumed some minor differences between the board revisions were to blame for lack of feedback from the led.
Now, I tried to find out what is going on and I can not find the culprit. I never got anything out of the sxmo led scripts, but now I installed the factorytest v0.64.0 and still nothing when I press [RGB Led].

Is the led broken? Did I do something wrong during installation?

Cheers

Photo First sketches for a PineNote UI
Posted by: 1jss - 08-18-2021, 12:27 AM - Forum: PineNote Software - Replies (6)

When the PineNote was announced I immediately started dreaming of what a UI could look like.

In my understanding the use case of the PineNote is so different from the PinePhone that the current GUI initiatives for mobile aren't applicable even if they could be made to work with the hardware. Instead I think the main focus should be reducing input latency as much as humanly possible. One way to do this is to not use gray scale as it (as I've understood it) requires multiple screen updates. Watching similar proprietary products flicker their way through the UI is not what I wish for this device. One alternative to grayscale is using dithering, and I think the screen has enough resolution to make this look good.

To give an example of what this could look like I sketched together two mockups of what a home screen and a note app could look like. They are both in the right resolution and uses only black and white. I've here used the Floyd–Steinberg dithering algorithm.
