Big thanks to Armbian! |

I still love my Pinebook. It doesn't get as much love as it should since it's slower than my phone, but I've been trying various different operating systems out again to see what I think. However since the Pinebook Pro came out, this model has been treated as legacy. Quite sad since it's still up for sale, but there you go.
I've tried and got the following: - KDE Neon - Nice enough, but all of a sudden stopped updating and working for me. Was support dropped?
- Manjaro - Not for me. Works well enough but I'm not a fan of Arch (personal preference) and I found it to be slower than Neon.
- Q4OS - Omg, they have an XP theme that's super close! My leading choice at this point and really easy and comfortable to use.
And then I tried Armbian Hirsuite... I love my Pinebook all over again!
Hisuite is based on 21.04, so is surprisingly bleeding-edge for a laptop branch others consider legacy. But powered with XFCE4, it suddenly feels super speedy like it did when it first came out!
To give a familiar look and feel refresh, I installed the Chicago95 theme. The theme dev has worked really hard on this and it definitely shows as it feels like I'm running some kind of Plus! pack on Windows 95!
The only thing I've come across so far is the sound doesn't work? But at this rate I'm usng the Pinebook for productivity not entertainment purposes. It also boots via a UEFI solution so I think it also suffers from the Manjaro charging issue too sadly, so I'm planning on installng aufan ubuntu to the emmc if that becomes a problem (charging while using seems to work well).
Now don't get me wrong, you open an Electron app or Chromium and you can see the system visibly slow down, however I was able to run Visual Studio Code at a bearably slow speed! Impressive considering how chonky of an app VS Code is. And I mean with lots of extensions (I write PHP, Python and Java).
So a big thanks to the Armbian devs for keeping up support for this fantastic little cheap laptop. You guys really made me fall in love with it all over again.

Attempts to 'log-in' |

I have been logging into the forum for a few years now.
I prefer using Epiphany (Web) however I just tried 8 times to log in and it would not let me, something about mis-matched credentials ?
I switched to Firefox and logged in on the first try.
I am using DuckDuck on both browsers.
Is there a problem with the forum or website software blocking Epiphany from logging in.?
I was able to browse the forum with Epiphany before I tried to log-in.

Phone Shell Nextcloud message notifications: turn them off? |

I think this is about Phosh, maybe specific to Mobian.
I frequently get notifications giving two messages:
Phone Shell
user@host/nextcloud
open
user@host
open
They pop up when there's a new network connection, for example, when I wake the phone up (power button) and the wifi state is disconnected, so it automatically reconnects.
I have a Nextcloud server which I have configured in the account settings.
When I open either message, it takes me to the Portfolio file manager with a list of connections or the top level of my Nextcloud files.
I'd like to turn these notifications off. I don't see one for Phosh, Nextcloud or Portfolio. I do see one for Networks. I turned off Networks notifications and I still get these Phosh/Portfoliio/Nextcloud notifications.
Is there a way to stop these alerts?
Thanks.

Hi!
When I try to run overlays on Armbian 21.08.2 Focal, they do not seem to load, see attached screenshot below for the output during boot. It looks to me that fdt is not properly run or sth.
root@rockpro64:/boot# cat /etc/os-release
NAME="Ubuntu"
VERSION="20.04.3 LTS (Focal Fossa)"
ID=ubuntu
ID_LIKE=debian
PRETTY_NAME="Armbian 21.08.2 Focal"
VERSION_ID="20.04"
root@rockpro64:/boot# cat armbianEnv.txt
verbosity=1
bootlogo=false
overlay_prefix=rockchip
rootdev=UUID=73fac48d-4f73-4ac1-b899-e67dc98b5794
rootfstype=ext4
overlays=pcie-gen2 spi-spidev
extraargs=net.ifnames=0 isolcpus=4,5
usbstoragequirks=0x2537:0x1066:u,0x2537:0x1068:u
Anyone seen this before and knows what the issue can be/how it can be solved?
Thanks in advance!

Pandora music streaming client |

So, just wanted to share a little solution i ran into for streaming music via pandora. I was toying with Beta 15 just recently and made an attempt to get pithos (pandora streaming client) working. Seems like it works out of the box pretty much. The UI leaves a bit to be desired in terms of control (no real thumbs up/down or like) but its better than nothing!
Enable SSH on your phone (systemctl start sshd) and run the following commands as the manjaro user:
Code: mkdir ~/src && cd ~/src
sudo pacman -S git base-devel
git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/pithos.git
https://github.com/pithos/pithos.git
cd pithos
makepkg -si
On the main apps menu, hit the 3 lines on thetop right and uncheck "Show only adaptive apps" and you should see a white icon with a blue note titled "pithos".
You will probably have to change the display scaling a bit to get the app to show right, however you'll probably do that anyway when setting up the phone.

I can't get adb to work |

Hi
I have installed the 32GB Android image on my Quartz64.
I have enable "developer mode".
I have gone into Developer options and enabled "USB debugging".
I am trying to run adb on an Intel laptop running Manjaro.
I tested it with a Motorola phone and I can get adb to work on the phone.
I have connected to the Quartz64 using this cable https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01KRO8D20
and I have tried all four USB ports on the Quartz64.
I can't think of anything else to try.
Can anyone help.
thanks
