  rockpro64 emmc
Posted by: GreyLinux - 11-08-2021, 05:21 AM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCKPRO64 - Replies (8)

Hi all ,

just a quick question , has any one had any success in booting from an emmc on a Rockpro64 using armbian (buster or bullesye) on the 5.* kernels ?

from what I've read ( and content is a bit thin on the ground) it seems like this isn't working yet, is this still the case?

How to mainline kernel on daniel thompson's debian installer?
Posted by: hellojack - 11-08-2021, 03:47 AM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (14)

Hi, i installed debian with daniel thompson's debian installer.

I noticed that the kernel is from a repository, and it's 5.8.
I want to install the lastest(5.10 in bullseye), mainline kernel.

Installing `linux-image-5.10-x-arm64` or something like that, and rebooting my system showed black screen.

How can i properly switch kernel on it?

Is there a good simulator for SW development to co-exist with the HW interfaces?
Posted by: jasonriedy - 11-07-2021, 09:34 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PineNote - Replies (1)

Just checking.  Is there a usable simulator that we can use to start working on the user-level software side of things?  So a hacked-up qemu + graphics or something like that.  I doubt I'll be much use on the reverse engineering side of HW things.

  Gnome podcasts

Will it be soon possible to install gnome-podcasts on mobian as a .deb package? I don't like using flatpaks.

  NVme intall usage?
Posted by: tkudog - 11-07-2021, 02:37 PM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (2)

I installed an SSD in my pinebook pro.  It is there, lsblk shows

NAME         MAJ:MIN RM   SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINTS
...
nvme0n1      259:0    0 931.5G  0 disk

But the disk doesn't show up in Dolphin?  The wiki says you can use it as a data disk.  What am I missing?

Fedora 33 to 34 upgrade issues
Posted by: tydeman - 11-07-2021, 01:22 PM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (2)

PineBook Pro still has Manjaro on its internal "disk".
I have Fedora 33 installed on a 64GB uSD card
(that mostly runs OK -- Shutdown does not turn machine off)

Today, I followed these instructions to upgrade from Fedora 33 to 34.
It appeared to work OK.

https://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2...using-dnf/
How to upgrade from 33 to 34 (in place):
NOTE:  Some of these steps take many minutes (appears system is hung)
su -
dnf --refresh upgrade
reboot
dnf install dnf-plugin-system-upgrade --best
dnf system-upgrade download --refresh --releasever=34
... takes a long time to download 3399 packages
dnf system-upgrade reboot
... takes a long time to install 3399 packages
su -
rpm --rebuilddb
dnf distro-sync --setopt=deltarpm=0
dnf install rpmconf
rpmconf -a

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/qui...m-upgrade/
    ... above plus these:
su -
dnf update
dnf repoquery --unsatisfied
dnf repoquery --duplicates
dnf list extras

That last command lists several packages, but the one I am worried about is:
  pinebook-pro-fixes.aarch64
and perhaps:
  ap6256-firmware.aarch64

The Dolphin file manager works OK.
System settings works OK.

But, firefox has issues.
  It starts and has a window with a title, but the main window is transparent;
in that I see the desktop
Also, emacs has issues.
Starting it from the desktop icon acts the same as firefox -- transparent window.

From a Konsole, starting either "emacs &" or "firefox &", I see warning from Gtk
that "window_decorations.css" is missing.

sd card wear vs partition size
Posted by: guenther - 11-07-2021, 10:02 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Hi folks!

Let's say I have a 32GB sd card with a partition smaller than full size, eg. 1GB. Will it wear out faster than with a full size partition or will the wear laveling use the unallocated space anyway?

  no Bluetooth in Plasma Mobile.
Posted by: Uturn - 11-07-2021, 01:57 AM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (10)

recently I flashed from Plamo dev to Plamo stable, as dev ist just not relly stable Big Grin .
Now both have currently a bluetooth but. Whilst Bluetooth is available in Settings, it is not possible to enable it.
When installing, manjaro plasma-mobile displayed there was an error in loading something bluetooth related.
A newer image, installed two days later, still is missing bluetooth ability.
Now sure the missing parts could be installed vian pacman.. but I don't know how.

  wifi hotspot ip address
Posted by: symbol.accounting@gmail.com - 11-06-2021, 06:09 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (1)

This is a really big deal for me. I want to use a pinephone as a webserver. So when I turn on the wifi hotspot it need its ip address to be the same every time. Is this true of the pinephone or not?

Cheers
