  PinePhone Keyboard Battery?
Posted by: seabre - 01-12-2022, 12:40 AM - Forum: PinePhone Accessories - Replies (22)

Has anyone successfully gotten the battery to work? My phone will only charge through the phone's USB-C slot and not the keyboard's. The battery doesn't appear to turn on, either. Is there battery protection or something like there was in the phone for shipping? I was one of the lucky few to get their keyboard early, but without a manual unfortunately.

We forgot to include the PinePhone keyboard manual in early shipments. We're very sorry about this.

You can find the digital version of the manual here

Question Best US Cell Carrier for PinePhone Pro
Posted by: nmatt - 01-11-2022, 02:26 PM - Forum: General Discussion of PinePhone Pro - Replies (18)

Just preordered my PinePhone Pro and very excited to have mainline linux on a phone and get involved in development efforts.

What are the best options for getting data/calls/texts working in the US? I currently use Verizon for my main android phone but I've heard it can be a pain to get a PinePhone on their network. Can anyone in the US who has data/calls/texts working well on their PinePhone let me know what you think works the best?

I'm hoping to daily drive my PinePhone along side my android phone to put it though its paces.

Thanks,
nmatt

  Switchng to Mobian from Manjaro on PPPro for test run

Based on what I have observed in the last week I will flash my PPPro (which I use as my DD) with the Mobian 20220109 weekly image and see how it compares w. the Manjaro image.

  New Keyboard Questions
Posted by: dgiffin - 01-11-2022, 07:40 AM - Forum: PinePhone Accessories - Replies (11)

Ok, just received my keyboard and fitted the phone into it - looks good BUT I have no idea if it's working as the keys aren't responding. I've connected the keyboard to power and pressed what I assume is the ON switch just above the USB socket but there are no lights, nothing on the screen - this is stock Manjaro. So what am I missing? How can I tell if the keyboard is active and if it is why aren't the keys registering?

And as if by magic I see a Tweet saying the phone needs to be powered off before setting it in the case - problem solved :-) But I'd still like to know how to check they keyboard battery etc?

  pcmanfm root permission error
Posted by: Dinosaur1946 - 01-11-2022, 04:38 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (4)

Hi All

I have installed pcmanfm file manager and have a problem opening a folder as root.
As I have used this program for years on the BeagleBone Black and never had any issues, I can't seem to make the .desktop file work as expected.
Where-ever I have searched the solution being put forward is as follows.

1: create a file in /.local/share/file-manager/actions
    call it root.desktop and put the following in it.

Quote:[Desktop Entry]
Name = Open as Root
Tooltip = Open the folder as root
Icon = terminal
Profiles = on_folder;

[X-Action-Profile on_folder]
Name = Open as Root
MimeTypes = inode/directory;
SelectionCount = 1
Schemes = file;
Exec = gksudo pcmanfm %f

I edited the last line to "sudo pcmanfm %f"
When I restart and run pcmanfm there is an additional line in the menu "Open Folder as Root"
There is no confirming message and when I perform a file copy to that folder , there is a permissions error.

I seem to have the same problem with Xfe which has an option in Tools/New Root window.
So I suspect there are global permission errors, however all the usual sudo install , update etc all work correctly.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.

Regards

EDIT: I don't seem to get email notifications of replies, bu ticked the boxes when I wrote the email ??

  PinePhone Keyboard need troubleshooting guidance
Posted by: MNtinkerer - 01-11-2022, 02:06 AM - Forum: PinePhone Accessories - Replies (5)

I received the PinePhone keyboard today and it charges however it does not do anything else. I am using the Mobian CE Pinephone. It is up to date. I've tried depressing the power button on the keyboard and nothing except it will stop the onscreen cursor from blinking. By the symptoms I suspect the firmware but I am not a developer so megl's blog is greek to me. Where do I start?

  Fried the charger port and USB
Posted by: leapylee - 01-10-2022, 04:15 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (1)

Hi there,

I hope someone out there can help me.

I just fried the single-pin Type H barrel power connector (and adjacent standard USB port) by absentmindedly inserting my Chromebook charger (that has a very similar pin).  The popping sound and bright red flash from the USB port with a burning smell told me that something was wrong Confused

The USB C socket seems ok so I can charge the device but it gives off a high pitched buzzing sound that I don't get when I use the Type H barrel lead. I also think it charges slower but that may be my imagination.  Is there a way of swapping out the charging part so I can fix the problem? It's not the end of the world just annoying that I did this so stupidly.

All help gratefully received,

Leapylee
