Gnome-podcasts on Debian repos - user641 - 02-04-2022

Is the gnome-podcasts coming to the Debian repos soon? I feel really bad using flatpaks, or is there an alternative to using another app? I tried gpodder but it is not mobile friendly and I had to download each episode than play it iwth another app, not very practical...

I too enjoy listening to podcasts on my pinephone. I listen to podcasts every day. I also agree that having Gnome-Podcasts would be a nice option.

I do use gPodder. Changing the Pinephone display from 200% to 175% helped make using gPodder easy (or tolerable) on the Pinephone. I am not too bothered that gPodder opens Lollipop to play the podcast; however, it does take patience waiting for Lollipop to load.

I see that Gnome-Podcasts is available as a flathub package. Because I use siglo (a flathub package) for Pinetime on my Pinephone, I might install it and switch to it.

Nice to see your experience, overall I am very very very grateful for the great work of developers and community.

Seems like Podcasts was originally released as a flathub package (https://flathub.org/apps/details/org.gnome.Podcasts), see https://www.omgbuntu.co.uk/2018/08/gnome-podcast-app or https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Podcasts. It might not be practical for debian developers/maintainers to include podcast in the debian repository.

Perhaps the request is for the Mobian team to include Podcasts as a default app in the base install? Another (better?) solution is for the Mobian team to include the flathub base files so that installing flatpak apps can be done on a fresh install. The list of packages in the Mobian repository is at https://packages.mobian-project.org.

RE: Gnome-podcasts on Debian repos - jsch - 02-06-2022

There is a bug open on debian regarding gnome-podcasts, see
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=965044
Looks like the obstacle is the missing rust-gstreamer-player package.
