  Convert Pinephone Keyboard into Powerbank
Posted by: magdesign - 07-17-2022, 02:31 AM - Forum: PinePhone Accessories - Replies (5)

Maybe you are like me and want to use the Pinephone Keyboard also to charge other devices as a simple Powerbank,
with following steps you can add an USB-A socket and use it as such a device (and you get the option to still use your usb-C phone port when keyboard is attached):

Schematic view of what we are going to do:

1.) Open the keyboard

2.) Remove the controller board:

3.) Cut the wires on J2. its better to cut two of them longer and two of them shorter, so you have a visual feedback of the polarity:

4.) Drill a hole in the outer cage which fits the diameter of your USB-A connector (just cut an usb extension cable to get a plug...):

5.) Insert the cable through the hole,
solder + and - to the cutted cables,
apply a shrink hose to isolate it, add a cable tie as a pull protection, but everything together and you are good to go:

Your powerbank is finished and you even see the status of your powerbank on the phone:

After trying to add LED's to show the charging status of the battery and speaking to megi, there is no possibility to do so. You will only get the charging status when connecting the phone... since the charging chip disables the led charging status when I2C is active and with the current wiring, this is always.

  Kalendar in Manjaro Plamo
Posted by: Uturn - 07-17-2022, 01:29 AM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (1)

anyone succeeded in installing Kalendar and connecting it wth their Nextcloud? I am able to install and I can setup DAV and it even shows my calendars but then Kalendar freezes. What could that be?
I think it freezes even without having setup DAV.

Date & Time-setting app is a very poor design
Posted by: treebeard - 07-16-2022, 03:06 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (6)

The Date & Time-setting app in the Gnome settings actually changes the date/time each time a widget is changed.  This can result in dozens of date/time changes whipsawing between past & future and creating absolute chaos with scheduled tasks.  The most recent case of this resulted in the loss of some important log info, perhaps because logrotate was so thoroughly confused. Angry

This app should generate one date/time change and only after the user says "okay, that's it".

Pinephone Pro Explorer Edition for sale, link in description
Posted by: Dinobot - 07-16-2022, 01:34 AM - Forum: General Discussion of PinePhone Pro - No Replies

Hi everyone,

Selling my PPP Explorer Edition. It's in excellent shape with Towboot installed. Everything is included (battery, sim adapter, USB-A to C cord). I haven't applied the screen protector. Reason for sale: I prefer a smaller formfactor phone. You can find the item for sale here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/125418884901

  switch stable or dev release?
Posted by: Uturn - 07-16-2022, 12:58 AM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (3)

is it possible to switch form stable to dev and back in manjaro plamo? Currently stable does not seem to get my nextcloud account working and maybe dev does. But I am not wanting dev on my phone forever. In Ubuntu we can choose which source to use.

Pinephone could have better cooling (suggestion)
Posted by: computerc - 07-15-2022, 08:19 PM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (3)

Hello,

I have a pinephone, and I noticed it gets warm. Maybe future pinephones could have heatpipes/vapor chamber or something. That's what I did to my Pinebook pro. I opened it and put a heatpipe in there, with thermal paste.

New SD card won't auto-mount, will only mount as read-only
Posted by: 3x5co - 07-15-2022, 07:57 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (3)

I just got a 256gb, off-brand MicroSD card (it's actually Onn brand, which is a Walmart generic brand). Anyway, I formatted it on my computer, and everything seemed fine. But when I put it into my Pinephone, it won't mount. I can only mount it like so:

Code:
sudo mount -t ext4 -o ro /dev/mmcblk0p1 /storage/0000-0000/;

And if i put 'rw', it won't mount. It says 'bad superblock'. This is no matter how many times I reformat, if I recreate the partition table, If I disable journalling. I have even formatted it from inside the pinephone and it won't mount. Does anyone know what I can do to make my card auto-mount, and make it writable?

  5a versus 3a PSU

Are there any guidelines as to when you'd need to get the 5a PSU versus the 3a one?

  Hardware h264 video encoding.
Posted by: Randomuser - 07-12-2022, 05:32 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Quartz64 - Replies (3)

I've been searching and searching and I'm finding various info about people saying h264 hardware encoding is implemented. I even found some github code for hantro h1 encoder which supposedly rk3566 has, but there is no straightforward confirmation whether this works or not.

I really don't care about the OS. I would prefer Linux, but android is fine too. Can someone please confirm or deny h264 encoding works on this hw? If no OS driver exists then is there a closed source driver?
