  Offroad OSM Osmand Vector maps
Posted by: Uturn - 07-10-2022, 01:39 AM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - No Replies

anyone tried Offroad maps with success?
https://sourceforge.net/projects/offroadosm/
I like the idea of having Osmand Maps natively on the Pinephone, but it does not seem to work.

can anyone suggest their working Linux bluetooth USB dongles to connect to Pinetime?
Posted by: jahway603 - 07-09-2022, 08:53 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PineTime - Replies (4)

I really am loving my new Pinetime watch, but I've been having trouble connecting to it with the bluetooth USB dongles I have on Linux systems. The dongles are able to see other devices, and will eventually see the Pinetime, but it continues to fail to pair or connect with it. I've been able to use Gadgetbridge on Android to flash my Pinetime, but that requires the location permission so I would prefer to flash my Pinetime with a regular computer.

What bluetooth USB dongles (or chipsets) are other Pinetime users using on Linux to flash their watches?

Lightbulb Pinecill LED mod - flashlight/headlights
Posted by: dzid26 - 07-09-2022, 06:31 PM - Forum: Pinecil Hardware and Accessories - Replies (3)

I was spoiled by other cheap battery-operated irons that had LEDs so I decided to add a pair of spare 5mm white LEDs to Pinecil iron. I had them from a reverse backup camera and they were already prewired with a thin wire.

- Vcc can be easily tapped from the leg of capacitor C8 or inductor L1.  (Vcc measured 4V for my Pinecil.)
[Image: AM-JKLWtPgE93CAW3PCvXLA_27svQV9shs0Jwq2M...authuser=0]
- I added a 22 Ohm resistor to achieve about 22mA per LED:  (Rs = (Vbus-Vf)/If = (4V-3V)/20mA = 40 Ohm. )
- I positioned the resistor right above the tip core and glued it to the ground tab while avoiding making short anywhere (use insulation)

- LED anode (+) is soldered to the resistor and cathode (-) to the ground tab.
- I drilled two small holes under the rubber sleeve for the cables and 3Dprinted a bracket to position the LEDs. Here is the file in Fusion360 (with Manufacturing Environment for slicing and final tolerance adjustments )

Idle tracking with PineTime: how versatile it is?
Posted by: schaman - 07-09-2022, 06:02 PM - Forum: Development Discussion on PineTime - Replies (1)

Like nearly every office worker, I'm spending too much time sitting, and I often notice that only when it's quite late, and my legs are cramping. I bought a Fitbit, thinking that idle time tracking and notification is a basic use case for fitness trackers, and hence it's richly configurable, but it seems it's not. And neither for other trackers I've checked so far, in fact. The Fitbit accumulate data in every hour between :00 and :50, and if there was not enough movement, there is a gentle vibrating reminder. But if you miss that, there is no new reminder for 60 minutes. Plus if you do your 250 steps e.g. at 8:01am, and then you sit down, there is no reminder until 9:50. It's easy to see this is quite flawed.
Before I spend a lot of time studying the code, I would like to ask people who are more familiar with it: is the following is possible with PineTime? :
- wake up every 3 minutes, and check how much movement were made in the past 30 minutes (the numbers here should be configurable)
- if not enough (again, number of steps is configurable), vibrate
- do this only in the configurable time window, your work time
Could someone with a good overview give me a first hunch estimation whether this is feasible or not?

  Microphone replacement
Posted by: SocialNetworkingWasAMistake - 07-09-2022, 04:30 PM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (1)

I dropped my phone a couple times and now the microphone is dead. Is the microphone just part of the USB-C sideboard? I can't tell because there's no real description on the page: https://pine64.com/product/pinephone-usb-c-side-board/

Or is it a more generic part I can just order like it is for the earpiece? There's nothing listed on the wiki about it

  RTC pins
Posted by: gadgeteer - 07-09-2022, 01:43 PM - Forum: Quartz64 Hardware and Accessories - Replies (7)

The wiki indicates real time clock (RTC) support under "Expansion Ports" [https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/Quartz64], but I'm not sure where to connect the coin cell battery holder.

Anybody know where to connect this?

Thanks!

  PP Keyboard question
Posted by: drh - 07-09-2022, 06:28 AM - Forum: PinePhone Accessories - Replies (4)

Hi All,

The battery on my PP keyboard is recognized by Mobian as a power source in Settings --> Power on my PP (not pro edition); however, there five (5) power sources are listed, which are: unlabeled (Discharging), Main (0%), Extra (0%), Extra (0%), Extra (70%).

The button on the right side of the keyboard does not activate/deactivate charging status. Does not work when I do a double press or a long press.

Note: I can use the keyboard for typing.

I have never used the usb-c port on the PP to charge the PP while it was in the PP keyboard, so this isn't the cause. I wonder if a possible cause is a software update (I use mobian).

The PP keyboard battery did charge the PP battery when I first received it, but stopped recently, which is when I noticed it not working. I don't know when this issue first began because I only plug in the keyboard for testing progress of optimizing the operating system power consumption/compatibility with the PP keyboard. When the PP keyboard battery was working with PP, the PP keyboard battery increased the duration of use of the PP by about 50%, hoped it would be more.

Wondering if others have experienced similar issue.

Thanks in advance for any helpful information.

Stay well.

  Cannot Remove SIM Adapter
Posted by: CheeseEBoi - 07-08-2022, 06:09 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (1)

Hi, I just received a Pinephone and I am having trouble removing the SIM adapter from the phone. Before I did anything and after taking out the battery tape, I simply put the adapter in without a card inserted as a test, but now I can't seem to get it out. I can sort of pull it lightly but it stops at a certain point and I don't want to break anything. I should also mention that I am legally blind, so I might be missing something. What can I do?
