  Squeekboard stopped working
Posted by: Zebulon Walton - 11-21-2022, 07:14 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (2)

After some recent updates I'm finding that squeekboard is no longer coming up when invoking the terminal or other programs needing keyboard input. I believe that sqeekboard is one of the packages that was updated.

However, if connecting remotely to the phone's GUI, squeekboard can be run manually in the terminal so it is there. When doing this, initially it displayed the following diagnostic:

Code:
Debug: Tried file "/home/mobian/.local/share/squeekboard/keyboards/terminal/us.yaml", but it's missing: No such file or directory (os error 2)

Info: Loaded layout Resource: terminal

It turned out that the file was actually located here:

Code:
/home/mobian/.local/share/squeekboard/keyboards/us.yaml

So I created the "terminal" subdirectory and copied the file there, resulting in no more errors and a bit different keyboard layout. There are no function keys either way and switching between "English" and "Terminal" mode makes no difference.

Anyone know a fix for this?

I've been having so many problems with recent updates (many audio problems and now this) I'm thinking of restoring my image backup from nearly a month ago, which was pretty stable, and avoiding updates for a while.

PSA: anacron might be disabled if 2.3-33 was ever installed
Posted by: treebeard - 11-21-2022, 02:32 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - No Replies

from https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/202...00647.html :

Quote:If you run Debian testing/unstable and ever installed anacron 2.3-33 on
a systemd based system, then anacron will no longer be enabled and the
daily/weekly/monthly cron jobs will not be run until it is.

Since not all cron jobs have migrated to systemd timers, Debian
testing/unstable systems with systemd and anacron may be missing
some essential cron jobs, such as making backups of aptitude state.

To see if a system is affected you can use these commands:

zgrep -i anacron.*2.3-33 /var/log/apt/history.log*
systemctl status anacron.service anacron.timer

To re-enable anacron you can use these commands:

sudo systemctl enable anacron.service anacron.timer
sudo systemctl start anacron.service anacron.timer

More details of this problem are available in these bugs:

https://bugs.debian.org/1019554
https://bugs.debian.org/1020966

v2.3-33 hit bookwork July 20 2022.

Possibility to have other CPU brands
Posted by: zxorg - 11-21-2022, 01:52 PM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (2)

I'm guessing if could be possible for future notebooks to have really powerful CPUs, like MediaTek Dimensity 9200 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Maybe it's a drivers/firmware issue since they are not open source, what's the opinion?

DiY - Installing Void Linux ARM On The Pinebook Pro

Any feedback ?

Why are you using MyBB for this forum?
Posted by: notramo - 11-21-2022, 07:48 AM - Forum: General - Replies (6)

This forum runs on horrible software. One of the wors UX that I experienced with open source software.

What was driving the decision on choosing MyBB instead of amazing alternatives, like [Discourse](https://www.discourse.org/)?
Seems like simply the usual Pine64 way of doing things.

edit: I'm now discovering that it doesn't even support the de facto standard for simple formatting: Markdown.

I have had the following problems so far:
- It shows alerts for replies I have read: there are 2 replies on a post, it shows 2 alerts. I click the first, read it then scroll down to the other reply, and read that also. But the “Alerts” button still shows `(1)` for the other reply, and I have to click it to make it disappear.
- My replies in DMs are not shown in a conversation view.

  720p video in Firefox
Posted by: notramo - 11-21-2022, 06:46 AM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (4)

I am using postmarketOS Phosh on the PinePhone.
Firefox is incapable of playing 720p video, even with the Firefox ESR hardware accelerration settings enabled.

Sometimes it completely lags for seconds, sometimes only a little bit, when UI (video controls/Phosh UI) is shown.
Needless to say, it gets very hot.

VLC can not even play a video.

What do you recommend for playing 720p video properly?

how to make a bootable USB linux sine pinebook will not boot up
Posted by: River - 11-21-2022, 02:55 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (14)

Since Pinebook pro will not boot at all ( black screen)

I'm trying to follow these instructions to make a bootable ubuntu

https://itsfoss.com/create-live-usb-of-u...n-windows/

I don't know some answer needed  to get past  first step

1.  Is the system   MBR  or a GBT?

2.  is the system  UEFI  or legacy BIOS?

  Pinebook Pro only started once
Posted by: River - 11-21-2022, 02:33 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (8)

Pinebook Pro only started once, after that  I got black screen and see green power light on.

I don't know what to do.  I have no other  linux machines.  but I do have working windows machines.

Advice in discord  did fix it  since  no one  knows exactly  how to make a micro SD card in windows work.  I tried but it's not working.
I'm not even sure I'm using rigt file.

some people in discord said to use SPI  file, then other people would come into discord and say no SPI file can't be made in windows.  at this point It has been many hours and screen is still black .

people in discord seem to disagree on metod.   some will say to make a tow - boot but I can't make it work in  Etcher.
some say don't do that.   I'm not sure which  are the correct steps  since I'm getting conflicting  information.

All I know is  Pinebook  doesn't work, black screen and only every booted  up into Manjaro One single time.

Struggling to detect Pinetime over bluetooth
Posted by: John45595 - 11-20-2022, 11:06 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PineTime - No Replies

I've been following this guide on how to connect my Librem5 to my Pinetime via bluetooth. It's reasonably recent (October 2022) and from the comments it seems to have worked for a number of people.

The issue I am having is I have been unable to detect my Pinetime from my Librem5's bluetooth. I have also been unable to detect the Pinetime from other devices I have like an iPhone.

Is there an obvious step I am missing? Also I don't know a great deal about blue tooth, is there instructions somewhere on how to troubleshoot detection issues with the Pinetime? I feel like I don't know what the right thing to search for to help resolve this is.

Lightbulb Article: Experiments for super low PinePhone power consumption with Genode
Posted by: Surehand53 - 11-19-2022, 02:43 PM - Forum: PinePhone Software - Replies (1)

Hi.

I came across this article from the Genode team. They have analysed various power settings for the PinePhone and came to a impressively low standby power consumption.

This Article might be also of interest for people who wrestle with Linux-PinePhone driver ?
