  No signal (HDMI)
Posted by: romaswe - 04-18-2016, 03:51 PM - Forum: Getting Started - No Replies

Hi i have a problem whit start up  Sad
i use the "NEW Ubuntu Pine64 ML-Anderal.img" that i download from Wiki
Then i format the SD card to standard size so its nothing left on it
After that i burn it to the sd card whit win32diskimager
Then i plug the sd-card in to the pine and plugg in the HDMI then i use a 5V 2A powersuplie and get the red power led on and i only get "no signal" on my screen

I have The PINE A64+ (1.2Ghz board and 1GB SDRAM)

Do some one have a ide on what my problem can be?

  Chromium?
Posted by: Sailing_Nut - 04-18-2016, 02:52 PM - Forum: Debian - Replies (63)

This may be a bit of a n00b question.....

I was trying to install chromium but apt-get fails to locate a package, but I can in the Debian Jessie package list that there is an ARM variant of Chromium available.

Do I need to add a new source to pick that up?

Thanks!

  third party wifi
Posted by: rahlquist - 04-18-2016, 12:52 PM - Forum: Linux on Pine A64(+) - Replies (3)

Has anyone gotten a 3rd party wifi adapter to work yet with Debian or Ubuntu? I have tried ad TPlink TL-W722N (AR9271 based) and a non name RT5370 based and despite pulling their respective firmware libraries from non-free I am not having much luck. I have to assume it is because neither the adapters modules are included? Any thoughts or insite?

  Debian kernel upgrade question
Posted by: jl_678 - 04-18-2016, 09:58 AM - Forum: Debian - Replies (2)

Hi,

My Pine is on its way and so I am thinking more about managing the platform.  I have already copied the image to my SDCard and so it is ready for the board's arrival.  However, the next question is ongoing maintenance.  Once I get it up and running, how do I ensure that I have the latest kernal and how do I upgrade it?  Historically, I have used apt-get package management but am not sure if that will work upgrading a Pine64 kernel.

Naturally, downloading and flashing a new image file won't work because it will require me to rebuild the applications and related configurations.  Hence my question, once you have a running Pine64 Debian system, what is the easiest way to maintain the Kernel to assure that you have Longsleep's latest patches and general improvements?

Thank you in advance for any perspectives.

  Shipping time
Posted by: jl_678 - 04-18-2016, 09:16 AM - Forum: Shipment Related Discussion - Replies (8)

Hi,

I just received a shipping confirmation on my Pine64 on Friday. Yay!  I am excited for its arrival but am not sure about the timing.  Does anyone have any real world experience about how long it takes for a shipment to arrive after confirmation?  I am based on the east coast of the US and have tried USPS tracking and they have no record of the shipment.  This is not problematic because they usually don't until the package arrives in the US.

On a side note, I ordered another Kickstarter product that took 4 weeks from China and so I am not sure if this shipping is similar.  I hope note but am hoping for guidance so I can set my expectations appropriately.

Thank you!

USB3 external disk not showing up
Posted by: Luke - 04-18-2016, 07:52 AM - Forum: Linux on Pine A64(+) - Replies (11)

[edit 3] Think I traced the problem to ehci --- does anyone know how to disable it in the kernel ?

Hello

I connected an external usb3 hdd to the Pine64 (formated ext4) and it cannot see it. I have tried fdisk -l and nothing.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Cheers !

Luke

[edit] Dont know if this helps but the the bus with the drive connected returns no id:

Bus 002 Device 125: ID 2537:1066

[edit 2] I did  "dmesg | more" to see if the drive is throwing out any errors and, as it turns out, it keeps connecting and disconnecting. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this ?

Here is tiny fraction of the output im getting:

  On counterfeit SD cards
Posted by: tkaiser - 04-18-2016, 02:56 AM - Forum: General - Replies (24)

Fake/counterfeit SD cards are a real concern for anyone trying to buy a reliable SD/TF card. You get them from every retailer since they sometimes don't even know that they sell fake cards. And trying to make 'good deals' almost always ends up with a fake SD card.

Compare with this nice article here:

Quote:I recently got about 20 64GB Micro SD cards for some project at various online sources (eBay, Ali, etc). 17 of those cards are fake.

17 out of 20. Hey, that's only 85 percent! Wink

Fake/counterfeit SD cards have less real capacity than the controller signals (most of the times they are also way slower than they should be). So if you insert this card into your PC it shows 16 GB capacity while it might be just 8 GB in reality. This card will work more or less fine until you exceed the 8 GB limit.

What does this mean for burning Linux and Android/RemixOS images.

You will be able to burn any Linux OS image that doesn't exceed this size without any errors. You can also later resize the rootfs to the faked capacity still without getting any error. But you will get in trouble for sure if you start to write data on the card the moment you exceed the card's real capacity since data that will be written beyond the card's real capacity is lost. Filesystem errors will occur, the FS will be turned read-only, applications and the system might crash/freeze. But this will happen later when you try to use the Pine64.

With Android/RemixOS it's different. Android images are meant to be burned using Phoenix Card. This tool tries to detect the card's capacity, then formats and partitions the card in a way that the whole capacity will be used. The size of all partitions is fixed except of the data partition. This will be resized to the max. Since the data partition is somewhere in between the other partitions Phoenix Card will move some partitions beyond the card's real capacity if you got a counterfeit card. In this case Phoenix Card will already fail burning the system partition so you will end up with the last message "[boot]Burn success" followed by a single line containing "Error" (when the Error is thrown Phoenix Card has tried to write the system partition and then tried to verify a successful burn by verifying checksums... and fails here):

So if you run into this situation think about testing your card now. Most probably you use a fake card and in case you used it before simply didn't take notice due to the different useage/partitioning. A fake card could be used with a Linux image on a Raspberry Pi since years without a single error but will fail already when trying to burn an Android image with Phoenix card due to the totally different partition scheme used by Android.

This is all well known since years and the Pine64 folks should create a quickstart guide that recommends testing every card prior to useage. It's easy and will save you time and hassles.

I was reading the posts and noticed one person mention that they had to sign for their package. Is it being sent as signature required in person or can you sign and leave it for the USPS for the next day?

Hey there still waiting on my board, but wondering what project to start with, I wondered if anyone has thought about using it as an Oculus rift, or any other VR setup.
