RetroPie on Rock64
#1
The purpose of this thread is to raise awareness about the endeavour to get RetroPie support for the Rock64. tllim has already sent out sample boards to BuZz from RetroPie and he happily accepted them.

While we keep our fingers crossed for official support, I feel it would certainly help if members of our community who are interested in using the R64 for the purpose of emulating retro games would help out making this happen. rtissera has already started tinkering and is trying to get a working build going.

Those who are interested in helping out - let me know Smile

im interested. im currently working on using chef io to automate the setup process of both retropie and os configurations, aswell as updating and installing new packages via script. ive gotten retropie working without the prepacked installer so i may be able to help a bit. Ofc this was all done on rpi3.

I am working on it too.
The mali fbdev approach used on ODROID is a dead-end due to the lack of user space drivers provided hardware accelerated fbdev.

So we will have to build it on the top of X11 or Mir/Wayland (I am unsure this is supported).

Will post progress here.

I've got retroarch setup in android and it's working well with most of the emulators. N64 is amazingly smooth and stable compared to the build I have in Retropie for my Rpi3. EmulationStation doesn't work as a compatible front-end at the moment, but ARC works pretty well!

LTronic is doing good progress on the retropie build. I am sure many people are looking forward to it.
But yes, retroarch on android works very well indeed as I documented some time ago in my initial post on the subject.

I am glad to see this.

I really liked RetroPie on the RPi 3. I was using a 60 gig image, with ton of games.

I think RetroPie on the Rock 64 would run great.

If he accepted the board, I bet he will get it work. I was on their forums, when people were asking for a ODROID build. He told them if someone got him a board, he would try to get it to work, and he followed through.

A lot of people running RetroPie on the Pi 3 love it.. But wish it would run n64 ROMs better. I think if he gets the rock 64 running RetroPie, and people see how the n64 runs on it... It will be very popular.
