Rock64 - not booting after Armbian update
#1
I have Rock64 Ver.2 - 1gb model.

Was working fine with Armbian 24.5.0-trunk.211_Rock64_bookworm_current_6.6.21 - boot from micro SD card

On SSH, I updated to latest version Armbian_25.2.1_Rock64_bookworm_current_6.12.13. Now it does not boot from micro SD card.

I had another micro sd card. I flashed new Armbian_25.2.1_Rock64_bookworm_current_6.12.13 - does not boot.

I had another micro sd card. I flashed OLD Armbian 24.5.0-trunk.211_Rock64_bookworm_current_6.6.21 - it boots. Then updated to latest Armbian & does not boot anymore.

Looks like some " Flashing_u-boot_to_SPI_Flash " - problem.

Please help.

Thanks in advanced

I'll never understand why Linux feels that it's appropriate to modify your firmware during an upgrade. Does x86 Linux reflash your BIOS when upgrading?

In any case; if you boot from the one which still boots, use it to erase your SPI ROM and try booting the newer one.

I flashed with newest uboot but same thing - no boot.

Did you flash it to the SPI ROM? If not, have you erased the SPI ROM?

First I flashed this to erase it :
u-boot-erase-spi-rock64.img.xz

then
I flashed with to write it:
u-boot-flash-spi-rock64.img.xz

after flashing - white led flashes continuously.

removed power. removed micro sd card & put newly burned Armbian_25.2.1 micro sd card - does not boot
Old Armbian boots as well as Dietpi boots

Does U-Boot say anything different between working and not working?

I wonder if something in /boot changed in Armbian.

Ah ha, I think you have used wrong image, rock64 is
probably for rk3328, I might be wrong
And this is why, unless you are REALLY sure, it is not so good to flash SPI
There is a jumper connection to short SPI clock, so not such a big deal
-----
opps, I see that maybe you really have a rock64, for some reason I thought you had rockPro
anyway, I think the clock signal is on pin7 so jumper 7->9 for a few seconds when booting (40 pin connector)
