Well, I am happy to say that typing in y prompted the phone to finally do an upgrade. The phone still seems to be heating up. Not as bad as before, but still pretty warm. So I will not leave it alone while charging yet.
Thank you to everyone that helped. I need to start studying again. I used to be able to do a little on my own a few years ago. Forgot so much. Any suggestions on the best place to get some training? Where I used to go does not seem to exist and there are many more that I see online. Just wondering if there is a suggested one. Again, Thank you for all the help. I might try to run through the update process again and see if anything else changes.

I would like to say a BIG Thank you to all that responded and helped. After finally getting the new update and then restarting, I let the phone stay plugged in for quite a while and no more extreme heating or buzzing.

Alright, in that case there's probably nothing serious to be afraid of. You heard something resembling a sort of rapid clicks coming out of the phone, right? I've also experienced the same behavior, and truth be told, it sounded quite weird, maybe even a bit scary.
 After some investigation, the cause of those weird sounds turned out to be rapid resets of the IC (ANX7688) that controls some of the functions of the phone's USB Type-C port. The ANX7688 actually initiated the resets itself, as a result of (yet to be investigated) overcurrent protection. Each of those resets caused the plugged-in USB device (in this case, a charger or a powered dock) to be removed and attached again, at the logic level of course, which in turn caused the operating system to successively play back the sound that indicates an USB device plug-in event. The above-described overcurrent protection is somewhat weird and remains to be investigated further. |
