Rock64 generally unstable?
#1
For weeks I have been trying to get my Rock64 4GB into a stable system state.

It does not work properly and there are many problems with it. I tried a lot for weeks until I realized that it wasn't the operating system or a program. Even when idle on a freshly installed system (stretch-minimal-rock64-0.7.11-1075-arm64.img), error messages appear on the console after some time and the system hangs.
Copying large files reproducibly brings the system to a standstill. I am using an original power supply, the CPU temperature is not higher than 55°C.Now I suspect a hardware problem.

- Is there a program to check the hardware reliably?
- What else can I try?

Hello,
I am not a specialist, but you may check the loaded module with lsmod and modinfo <module>
another thing : avoid touching the gpio when you manipulate rock64

LMM.

you can also check the entire kernel buffered traces with dmesg

Did you try Armbian too?
https://www.armbian.com/rock64/
What is all connected to the Rock64?
What do you mean with hangs? Is it just for some time it stops working? Or does it crash completely?

Thanks for the clues.
Nothing is connected externally to the Rock64 and still the system sometimes stops. You can't enter anything on the console anymore.
I'm going to try Armbian now.
Thank you!

Armbian been running nearly a year here with no problems and supports most of the hardware and peripherals I've thrown at it. You might have problems with some of the more exotic distros and will need a little kernel knowledge to tailor them to suit your needs.

I just got a new rock 64 my setiathome has computational errors. This is the only system it happens with. Does not matter which distro. Does not matter if 1.3 ghz or 1.51 ghz.

When I played with overclocking, this one did quite a good stability test for CPU/RAM: https://www.mersenne.org/download/
If every stress mode is fine for 8-10 hours — system may be considered as stable. Usually it stopped with an error in a 5-10 minutes.
Causes high load, so watch the chip temperature!

I am having problems with my rock64 as well. Running armbian stretch. Maybe I should try armbian ubuntu. What distro do you run?

Yes, that is where I got the stretch. Been running bionic now for a few days, but still trouble. Opened support ticket.
