External DAC
Thanks for the pics, glad to see that things are moving :-)

Questions though, since buses/connectors are not accessible anymore.
Powering the pine64 through the microUSB has been a pain for many; powering through the Euler bus appears as the best option.

For those who are already using the Euler and/or EXP and/or PI2 connectors, is there a way to connect the DAC to the pine64 with wires to the I2S pins?
Or will there be a DAC board with protruding male connectors?
Thanks!

what wifi module where you using? The longsleep repo has a few drivers for them and I enabled whatever was there. While building Volumio, firmware is being added for realtek and others. I'm not claiming all available dongles will work (they don't), need to check which ones I used.
As for the hickups, it is known to happen with some platforms while volumio is still indexing the library.
Your still have that issue?
Glad the connectors have been turned horizontally on the production model.

Hi Ge,

I tried thee wifi dongles in total: one old belkin and two no-brand dongles with a realtek chips. I will look further into this too.

Regarding the hitching, I will need to play some music today and see - I heard two 2-3sec dropouts during ~2hrs of listening yesterday evening.

Yes, its really nice that the connectors are turned horizontally. Now lets hope someone designs a nice case for it Smile

I'm not be best person to answer your question, but no - there are no protruding pins on the current DAC. If I were to guess, I'd say you probably will have to power Pine board from microUSB.

Hi,
Thanks to all involved for getting this going!

I have a wifi issue also, not sure if others also have the same problem. I am running a 2GB pine64 board with an externally powered usb port with a dragonfly black USB DAC. Wifi is PINE64 WIFI 802.11BGN/BLUETOOTH 4.0 MODULE. The wifi worked fine running a debian image, but doesn't running a volumio image (volumio-2.063-2017-02-06-pine64.img).  Volumio boots OK, sets up hotspot OK, one can connect to the hotspot using browser interface on a phone/tablet OK and can play music. However, if trying to change to local wifi network the wifi connectivity fails. DMSEG output below. The error message that jumps out is OnDeAuth(wlan0) reason=15.......

best wishes,
James

Hi , Gkkpch

When i was turn on the pine64  , DAC Board SPDIF will automatically light up  ?

I want to know this version 2.166 is  support pine64 headset?  Not DAC board ?
Because i was tested the RCA L & R no sound only is pine64 headset have sound  , is my problem ?
And why Audio output setting only is Analog Audio Out no  SPDIF  and Coaxial setting ?

other i haven't yet to test

Thank you !

If I am wrong please correct my content , thank !

1. Use Pine64 Running Ubuntu 16.04 Web Server ( LAMP )

2. Use Pine64 Running Official Android 6  for Media player
3. Use Pine64 Running Volumio Digital Audio Player

@joe,
The volumio team just finished a brand new build for the Raspberry (our dev and reference platform).
As soon as this has been released, all other platforms will be updated.
For Pine64 this means Volumio will support a new kernel with I2S/ ES9023 DAC support (some other devices will work too. There is no support for SPDIF, because of driver issues we have no control over.
Hold on for a week or so, I will announce when the software has been updated.

This is really good news. Pity about SPDIF - you write a new kernel, do you mean mainline or 3.10.107?

This is 3.10.107(?), as before, but with modified dts and included audio drivers.

Sorry for testing your patience for such a long time, but finally got the release done for Pine64.
This is the download location for v. 2.312

It covers the latest Volumio release, which will be published for other platforms the net couple of days.
Supports for the Pine64 DAC has also been included, but still no S/PDIF I'm afraid.
Kernel is still based on Longsleep's 3.10.104.

As Pine64 is an officially supported version, you would be best served when reporting issues in the Volumio Forum.
