Pinephone refusing to charge while suspended

Hi,today I found out my Pinephone is not charging while in suspension.

Now I am looking into the schematic and I find this intentional: U601 boost converter's enable pin is driven by the V17 pin on the A64 SoC, through R611 resistance.

Is there any specific reason for this? I mean, is battery charging something that needs to be monitored by the software? In my mind, battery charging can be done just with HW, that I do not see the point of this limitation...
