high battery drain on suspend/poweroff
#1
Hi,

I recieved my PineBook Pro a week ago. I use Manjaro ARM with KDE (the image that came with the laptop)
I noticed very high battery drain on suspend with systemctl suspend (50% ~8 hours) and even when powered off with sudo shutdown (20% ~20hours).

I'm very worried. Do you think my unit is faulty ?
Thank you

no that's normal. the suspend state available to OS options using mainline uboot (like Manjaro) can currently only offer S2 sleep state, rather than the S3 that people often associate when they think of suspending a computer.

you can achieve S3, though, but it requires you to switch to BSP uboot, and downgrade your kernel, then edit sleep.conf.

Thank you for you answer. Is it also normal for the battery to drain when powered off ?

not enough that should be noticeable. something to keep in mind though is that (last i recall) manjaro kde has the power button set to enter s2 sleep, and not actually turn off the pbp(this can be changed in the settings.) so it can look like you're turning off your pbp, but it's not actually off.

the s2ram issue is very painful on PineBook Pro. I could get it working with Tow-boot installed to SPI memory and changing sleep.conf file. With Tow-boot install to emmc or sd the laptop didn't resume.

I tried out tow-boot, when I did, it did work OK viz s3 (on SD) but not as good as BSP (more draw)
Then there was an update, and it did not awaken from sleep (IIRR)
BTW, s3 is called suspend in dmesg,,, ie dmesg|grep suspend
