Replacing the Keyboard
#1
Some of the keys on my Pinebook Pro keyboard no longer register any input (after a heavy object fell on them). Apart from that inconvenience, the device works perfectly. I therefore plan to purchase a replacement keyboard (https://pine64.com/product/pinebook-pro-...-keyboard/) and to assemble the other components on it.

My questions are as follows:

- What equipment do I need for the dis/reassembly? I own a screwdriver set and have verified that I can take off the bottom case and loosen any screw fixing the internal components (mainboard, battery, ...). Do I need anything else?

- Am I right in assuming that I can remove the internal components one-by-one, and then reassemble them in reverse order (to the one when removing) on the new keyboard?

- Is there anything I should take special care of or watch out for?

- Are there any guides on changing the keyboard of the Pinebook Pro? A DDG/Google search has produced no (useful) results.

Many in thanks in advance,
gabb

A rather detailed guide for the keyboard replacement is available as an aptly named section of the official PineBook Pro wiki page. Cool

Thank you for this reference dsimic that I have stupidly overlooked.

The replacement keyboard has arrived, and I can confirm that attaching it (after removing the broken one) according to your suggested guide works. The only tool i required was my screwdriver set.

Many thanks to the Pine64 team for making easily repairable devices and to the awesome community for the guide!

I am delighted with the work of Pinebook Pro, since April 2021 this is my main working laptop.
But recently the "down arrow" key stopped working on my Pinebook Pro..... Sad
Two questions.
1. Does it make sense to disassemble the laptop and try to repair the work? Or is it better to order a new keyboard right away?
2. Is it possible in your store https://pine64.com/product/pinebook-pro-...-keyboard/ buy a keyboard with enough at:
Russia Krasnodar Territory Novorossiysk
I am grateful in advance for the answer.

1. the keyboard is a single piece design, you can try to check out the reason and determine whether fixable. my takes is just order a new keyboard.
2. since keyboard spare park itself don't contains battery component, should able send to Russia.

This week I ended up spilling honey tea absolutely all over my keyboard (it wouldn't even have happened except that a mug suddenly stuck to a very heavy coaster and put the whole thing off balance).

I feel like if it had been possible to unscrew the back of the keyboard (metal rectangle) from the front panel, I might have been able to properly clean it, since splashes on the surface only needed to be scrubbed with water a bit. (Do I have it right that the brass circles around the keyboard are for screws, but aren't actually used for anything?)

Alternatively, maybe there could be rubber dust covers for the keyboard.
