Dead Microphone?
#1
I can't seem to get my pinephone manjaro community edition to record audio. Things I've tried:
  • Booting different versions of Manjaro Arch and Mobian from the SD.
  • Changing sample rates and gain settings for pulse and alsa.
  • Disassembling the phone and checking connections.
  • Plugging an earphone/mic combo into the headphone jack.

I can only get silence or static out of the audio recorder app.

Do I need a new phone or is there some software setting I've overlooked?

I, too am having microphone issues. I haven't tried a microphone in the audio jack, but I've definitely flashed several different versions of sxmo, including testing; disassembled and checked all the connections to the mainboard and the USB-C board, verified that there's no external debris inside the case, and made sure that switch 3 is on (including manually switching it back and forth). at this point I'm at a loss. the microphone doesn't even show up in alsamixer.

I've got the UBPorts edition with the upgraded mainboard to 3G/32G. the only solutions I've found online are "get a new board" which is disheartening.

I can't even tell where the microphone is connected, because there's a plastic sheet on the front side of the mainboard that prevents me from tracing it from switch 3. the data sheets are no help, they don't even mention the mic, just some resistors related to the microphone.

edit: I just sent an email to Pine64 support. we'll see what they suggest, if anything.

The microphone is located on the underside of the USB C sideboard, look for MEMS AMIC in the sideboard schematics.

But if both the regular microphone and the audio jack microphone don't work, I guess the problem lies elsewhere (no idea where though).

Hi, I wonder if Pine64 support got back to you with a solution. I have the same issue and I have raised a ticket with them a month ago and never got any reply.
