Me too.  It seems to be something introduced into Bookworm between my Dec 30 and Jan 12 dist-upgrades.

Strangely enough, the problem hasn't happened again since posting the last message.  I guess it really does help to talk about your problems!  I think that batch of updates included my first install of a 5.15 kernel (and then rebooting to use it).  I did another upgrade today, which included an update to kernel 5.15.
