Images for the Pinebook in general, and Slackware in particular are a bit of a mess. On the plus side, Armbian seems to work well and is using a 5.4 kernel, if you download it directly from Armbian.
As far as I know, all of the Slackware images are for the 1080p Pinebook. I can't get any of them past the uboot screen either. The only images that are confirmed to work were on 3space.xyz, and somewhere in this thread it was mentioned that they were going away in 2021. Looks like it has happened. Unfortunately there is something wrong with the images on the new site, shelldweller.beauxbead.com. I can't get them to unarchive. They seem suspiciously small.
I've been too lazy to break open my Pinebook in order to get the serial port going and try to figure out the error, so at the moment I have Slackware running with the Armbian kernel. I have wireless and X working but haven't tested beyond that.
there is another slarm64 thread on pinebook pro -- the kernel works on pinebook pros as well as pinebooks -- anyways... I got slarm64-current going on pinebook pro, with full disk encryption--however, it wasn't quite like fast food -- but it was a learning experience, which is what slackware is all about. Before trying the image, I mounted it, and edited /etc/inittab to put it in runlevel 3, so that it would not try to automatically start X11 session, which is overkill. Then, when booting from that image, I could login from console without X11, and complete installation (there was even handy script that installs to internal eMMC drive if desisred).
