This here looks suspicious:

Code:
[    2.846823] panel-sitronix-st7703 1ca0000.dsi.0: [drm:st7703_probe] *ERROR* mipi_dsi_attach failed (-517). Is host ready?

[    2.901644] sun4i-drm display-engine: bound 1200000.mixer (ops sun8i_mixer_ops)
[    2.909581] sun4i-drm display-engine: No panel or bridge found... RGB output disabled

[    2.933852] sun4i-drm display-engine: bound 1ca0000.dsi (ops sun6i_dsi_ops)

That is OK - mine (from a boot that worked) is
Code:
[    2.809845] panel-sitronix-st7703 1ca0000.dsi.0: [drm:st7703_probe] *ERROR* mipi_dsi_attach failed (-517). Is host ready?

[    2.864702] sun4i-drm display-engine: bound 1200000.mixer (ops sun8i_mixer_ops)
[    2.872639] sun4i-drm display-engine: No panel or bridge found... RGB output disabled
[    2.880491] sun4i-drm display-engine: bound 1c0c000.lcd-controller (ops sun4i_tcon_ops)
[    2.888804] sun4i-drm display-engine: bound 1c0d000.lcd-controller (ops sun4i_tcon_ops)
[    2.896845] sun4i-drm display-engine: bound 1ca0000.dsi (ops sun6i_dsi_ops)
[    2.905241] sun8i-dw-hdmi 1ee0000.hdmi: Detected HDMI TX controller v1.32a with HDCP (sun8i_dw_hdmi_phy)
[    2.915476] sun8i-dw-hdmi 1ee0000.hdmi: registered DesignWare HDMI I2C bus driver
[    2.923599] sun4i-drm display-engine: bound 1ee0000.hdmi (ops sun8i_dw_hdmi_ops)

However from journalctl --list-boots it seems I did indeed reboot yesterday morning after the kernel upgrade - my system has been running since 08:09 BST on 22-07-2020.
I wonder if this is some regression on the proximity sensor/brightness? But I am now very puzzled why you are afflicted and I seem to have dodged the bullet!?
