Immediately phone would no longer boot. Pine64 logo comes up, then there is a click sound (every time) then black screen. Sometimes with a redlight sometimes without. Have tried resetting, starting when plugged in, Flashed UB touch for pinephone to a new sd to attempt to boot from SD. No luck.

I haven't had much time to tinker, but the ubports edition should have ubports installed on the eMMC, so can you confirm the following:
- You've removed the plastic tab which stops the battery from connecting to the phone?
- Remove the SD card (the phone will naturally try boot from SD card first) and try to boot again?
- Install something like Manjaro or Mobian via balenaEtcher to both your SD cards, install each SD card for each try, have it on charge, wait for a few minutes, turn it on by holding the power button for 5 seconds, wait for a minute to boot.
- Sometimes it takes a minute just to show the boot logo.
- How are you charging it? Have you tried other chargers and cables?

Good luck
I can confirm per your checklist all was done correctly. Plastic tab was removed and phone booted from mmc correctly. It was fine with the initial set up and through the first few hours. Phone worked fine on battery. It is only when i decided to inserta blank sd card purely for storage purposes this happened.

Flashing UB touch on another sd card to boot from SD was only a later attempt at restoring it.

However; quick update. I was in fact able to start it again and boot from the sd by following a specific bunch of steps: 1) instert sd. 2) power on, wait for pine64 screen to pass and get stuck on black screen. 3) power off. 4) repeat step 2. 5) remove back cover and hold reset button until fresh boot begins.

It now seems to boot fine from sd however cellular signal isnt working correctly anymore (it was working when first received) now it recognizes my network but the calls dont get placed. will tinker some More. I did see someone mention a similar issue caused by an update and they found a way to recover the mmc OS. I may attempt this shortly to see if that helps get back the cellular service.
