Guess I'll mark this issue as "solved", although it isn't really.  (Yes, I now know what happened.  No, I'm not particularly happy about it.  Hopefully this will all be forgotten about by the time the phone eventually arrives.   Heck, I'll probably have forgotten that I ever ordered the phone...)
